James Gunn is here, shattering our dreams yet again. It looks like axing Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot was not enough slashing for James Gunn. Dwayne Johnson has made a new revelation. He says the Black Adam sequel will not be in the first chapter of the new DC Universe slate.
Dwayne Johnson breaks his silence on the Black Adam’s future and informs us that the franchise’s production has halted. Since James Gunn wants to revamp the DC Universe, Black Adam‘s future seems to have taken a backseat.
The actor took to Twitter and gave his fans an update regarding the much-anticipated sequel, shattering many dreams about his new and gullible superhero character. His superhero movie, Black Adam, was released in October 2022 but was bombed at the global box office.
It was made with a budget of $200 million, but it grossed $391 million worldwide, allegedly leading Warner Bros to incur a loss of around $100 million.
Will There Be A Black Adam Sequel in The Future?

Since Peter Safran and James Gunn took over as the new CEOs, a lot of ‘reinvention’ has been happening around the DC Universe.
Taking to his Twitter, as he does for all the important announcements, he wrote, “My passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe. James and I connected; Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most beneficial ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.
Further, he added, “This move represents both Gunn and the studio’s vision of the DCU through their creative lens. Johnson has given close to 10 years to Black Adam. He also expressed his admiration for the ‘relentless hard work’ that went into making the film and thanked the audience for their love and support of his newly released movie and himself over the years.
His Twitter post read, “We did great. To my very passionate and vocal Black Adam/Super Hero genre fans– I love you, THANK YOU, and I will ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOU and do my best to deliver and entertain you.”
We Might Not Get A Black Adam Sequel And Here’s Why!

For starters, Black Adam was a big flop at the global box office. Understandably, disappointment and poor critical reviews might be a big factor to consider before incurring more losses. According to Greenlit, Black Adam was supposed to wrap up a budget of $190 million. However, due to poor screen testing, the budget skyrocketed to $290 million after the expensive 20-day reshoot schedule. And to make matters worse, this budget did not include the marketing costs.
Interestingly, in recent days, rumors about an apparent feud between the actor and Gunn have been making rounds. But the actor cleared it out and said that the two had known each other for years. They have always rooted for each other’s success. He said, “It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC and Marvel to win and WIN BIG.”
