The one question I have come across the most is “Did you catch Mew in Pokemon Go” ever since I started playing the game. Mew is one of the most popular Pokemon in the entire franchise, and every player tries hard to get their hands on it. However, catching Mew is a tedious task and cannot de performed quickly.
Pokemon Games like Pokemon Go and Sword and Shield are fun to play, but they become a pain when their tasks become tough to complete. The most significant motive of these games is to catch the best dragon-type and other legendary Pokemon and become the king of Poke world.
One such task is to catch Mew in Pokemon Go. Mew is easily one of the best psychic type pokemon in the entire game and has a base attack of 210, which is considered an excellent number as per the stats. This tiny little yet cute mythical champ is one of the rarest Pokemon in the entire region, and whosoever becomes lucky enough to grab this cute furball is considered one of the best players.
However, catching Mew is not an easy task as it requires many skills, patience, and time from a player. So, if you are ready to devotee these three things to the game, only then can you have the pink little munchkin Mew in your team. Otherwise, you can start catching the random Pokemon that comes into your sight whenever you are taking a walk.
How to Catch Mew in Pokemon Go
To catch a Mew in Pokemon Go, you need to have a lot of patience and time. If you are very much into the game and have a lot of free time that you need to pass, then launch the game on your device and get ready to pass A Mythical Discovery challenge to get your hands on Mew. A Mythical Discovery is an eight-step challenge that contains three tasks at each step. Once you complete all the tasks, you will get a mythical pokemon encounter reward at the last stage, which is your key to grabbing Mew in your Poke ball.
Step 1 of The Mew Quest – Transfers
The game has begun, my friend, and you must play to get what you want.
Spin Five Pokestops
The first step you will follow to catch Mew in Pokemon Go is to spin the Pokestop five times. Pokestops are typically the landmarks that you can spin by going to the map physically. Each time you spin the Pokestop, it will not only take you one step close to your target, but it will also give you plenty of rewards.
Catch 10 Pokemon
The next task to perform is effortless and will take you to the third step quickly. All you have to do is catch the Pokemon in the game, and it will be even better if you catch duplicates of a pokemon. Once you catch the copies along with some other pokemon, you can quickly move to the next step.
Transfer 5 Pokemon
You can easily take your duplicate Pokemon and transfer them to professor willow, which will complete the third task of the quest for you. Locate the Pokeball icon at the bottom of the screen and then select the Pokemon tab. Select the Pokemon who are duplicates and then tap on the three lines present at the bottom of the screen.
Rewards: 500XP for clearing each challenge, 10 Great Balls, 1 Incubator, and 3 Lures.
Step 2 of The Mew Quest – Hatch Eggs
You are doing good, my friend. You are just a few steps away from your prize.
Earn 2 Candies
As you level up the quest, your tasks will also start to progress and require you to put in the extra effort. For this task, you need to set Caterpie or Magikarp as your buddy and start looking for the candies. Earn the candies but keep one thing in mind: you cannot use them to evolve your Pokemon.
Make 10 Great Throws
The next step will require you to be precise with your throwing technique. You have to throw it so that it will hit the bullseye circle right in the middle. Although you don’t have to worry, even if you go a little small, it will still get counted as a great throw.
Hatch 3 Eggs
This step is also pretty easy and won’t take much of your time and effort. You have to hatch three eggs to complete this task, with each egg having a specific distance for hatching. Select your lowest distance incubator, place your egg and then take a short trip with your buddy.
Rewards: 1000XP for each challenge, 2000 Stardust, 3 Incense, and 20 Great Balls.
Step 3 of the Mew Quest – Raids and Gyms
Excellent, my young player, you will soon become the master of this game.
Reach Level 15, Battle in a Gym x2, Battle in 2 Raids
I have kept all the stages of step 3 in the same line because all these tasks will be performed simultaneously. These steps will sync with each other and help you get closer to catch Mew in Pokemon Go.
You can reach level 15 by just playing the game and taking part in gym battles and raids. When you battle in these events, you will receive XP as a bonus that will benefit you. It will be completely okay even if you don’t win a battle as only participation is enough.
Rewards: 1500 XP for each challenge, 1 Quick TM, 1 Charge TM, and 2 Star Pieces.
Step 4 of the Mew Quest – Medals
Soon you will earn a medal for playing so well and consistently in the game.
Earn a Silver Kanto Medal
If you have been playing the game for a long time, you have probably already completed the first task of this step in the challenge. You can earn a silver medal by catching 50pokemon from the original collection and since you were catching them from the very beginning, so let’s just put a check on this task.
Evolve 20 Pokemon
To be honest, this part of the challenge does not look like a challenge at all. To evolve a pokemon, you have to keep one thing in mind pick the ones that evolve quickly, like Caterpie or a Weedle. Catch them together, gain the candies, and then evolve all of them once. Boom, you will even earn 500XP per evolution once you are done with the task.
Walk with your Buddies to Earn 5 Candies
This one is the same as one of the tasks in the above challenge set. Grab a pokemon that is a low-distance travel buddy, go through a nice walk, and quickly earn five candies.
Rewards: 200 XP for each task, 20 Great Balls, 3 Lures, and 4000 Stardust
Step 5 of the Mew Quest – Catching Ditto
You are doing so good my friend, just a few steps away from hugging your incredible prize.
Catch a Ditto
Okay, as much as the last challenge was easy for you to do, this is going to be tough. Catching a ditto pokemon is not easy, as you cant see it on the field. You will only be able to see it after you catch it. Ditto usually takes the appearance of the following Pokemon so if you notice any of the following Pokemon, grab them quickly.
This task will take plenty of your time, but if you keep your eyes open all the time, things may seem easy. Also, another point worth remembering is that if you catch a Ditto before the challenge asks you to, that will not be counted.
Make 20 Great Throws
You already know how to be an expert at this task so, let’s move on to the next job quickly.
Catch 10 Ghost Pokemon
The best time to catch ghost Pokemon in the app is between 8 pm to the following day before 8 am. Take out your phone, do a little walk and start catching these cute ghost pokemon.
Rewards: 2500 XP for each task, 1 Premium Raid Pass, 1 Lucky Egg, and 15 Revives
Step 6 of the Mew Quest – Evolution of Magikarp
Don’t give up now because you will regret it for a long time if you do.
Reach Level 25, Battle in 10 Raids
Since you have come this far through the game, you have most likely taken things to the 25th level of the game. You have also attempted to catch Ditto in the previous task and participated in different events, so my best guess is that two tasks of this set have already been completed.
Evolve a Magikarp
To evolve a Magikarp, you need to have a massive amount of 400 candies in your stock. This task will also take time as gaining 400 candies is not something that will happen overnight, but if you stuff your Magikarp with plenty of Pinap berries, it will double the number of your candies.
Rewards: 3000Xp for each task, 6000 Stardust, 5 Rare Candy, and 3 Incense
Step 7 of the Mew Quest – Throwing a Curveball
At last, all your patience and efforts have worked in your favor. Complete this one last set of tasks and grab your pink mythical fur ball.
Catch 50 Pokemon Using a Berry
Now, this is a tricky task that ends up confusing a lot of people. You have two ways to catch a pokemon using berries. One of these methods is a glitch where you will feed berry to a pokemon but not throw a ball to grab it, which will end up consuming your XP and stardust. The other way is to provide a pokemon berry and catch it simultaneously.
Make 1 Excellent Curve Throw
By now, you may have thought that you have become an expert at accomplishing some great throws, but all those throws are far from an excellent curve throw. A perfect curve throw requires a lot of patience and using a bullseye that is the tiniest in size. Another important thing that you need to keep in mind is ensuring that the stars start circling your poke ball before you throw it so you will get a good hold before you begin to spin the ball before releasing it.
Earn a Gold Kanto Medal
This part of the challenge is pretty easy, and there are good chances that you may have already earned a gold Kanto medal. You will receive a gold Kanto medal once you have 100 of the Kanto region pokemon.
Rewards: 3500 XP for each task, 8000 Stardust, 20 Ultra Balls, and a Mythical Pokemon Encounter (very well deserved)
Final Step: Catch Mew in Pokemon Go
When you finally have your golden chance to encounter a mythical pokemon, don’t let it go in vain. Mew does not run, so there are already zero chances of you failing in this step. Throw your poke ball at Mew and catch it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Rewards: 4000XP for Mew, 10000 Stardust, 1 Super Incubator, and 20 Mew Candies.
These are the tasks that you have to complete to catch Mew in Pokemon Go. If you are a beginner, you may find these steps challenging initially, but trust me, once you have accomplished all these tasks, you will be more than happy to get your hands on the adorable pink creature known as Mew.
