James Gunn has always made it pretty clear that he would love to work with the cast of Guardians Of The Galaxy again in the DC’s future. One of his very dear ones from the cast was Dave Bautista, who was suggested to play the Character of Bane by many fans.

However, things will not be going his way this time. Previously, while appearing at JusticeCon in April 2021, Bautista had a chance to meet the Warner Bros. duo. At the time, he had demanded to play the role of Bane, and while talking about it, he says, “I’m not kidding. They were a little like, ‘Woah, we’re not even casting Bane. I was like, ‘I dont care, I’m playing him.”

But even with his mentor, James Gunn taking over, his dreams will not be coming to fruition. While in an interview with Insider, Bautista revealed James Gunn’s ‘Young’ DCU plan and how it will impact his wishes to play Bane.

Dave Bautista Reveals James Gunn’s ‘Young’ DCU Plan And How It Impacts His Wish To Play Bane!

Bautista explained how James Gunn hopes to reset the button on the DC Extended Universe. He plans to cast ‘young’ actors who will still be there after 15 years. The company felt that it had to create new stars from square one.

Bautista says, “I have had conversations with James about that, but I think the direction he’s leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher, and I think you need to do that. I think for the DC Universe to be revived, you need to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors. You need to start to plan for the next 15 years, and I just don’t think you can do that with me. And I understand that.”

He further shared that he appreciates Gunn’s honesty about not wanting to cast him in his movies. “I don’t want to play a character that I can’t bring justice to it. I don’t think at this point in my career that I can bring justice to Bane anymore. I just don’t know if I could handle the physical part, and I don’t think I would have the longevity to plan ahead for films. So, I just don’t know if I’d be that guy.”

Gunn and Bautista will collaborate in their last project together, Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3, marking their respective departures from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On his departure, Bautista talked to GQ magazine. He says, “It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy — it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 will release his year in May. Dave Bautista will be seen next in Knock at the Cabin, releasing on February 3.
