The Book of Damned contains unlimited power to the one who can access it and is also known as The Darkhold. The book isn’t new to the movie and has been present in the MCU for a long time. The Darkhold Ended Up In Wanda’s Hand Way Before Dr. Strange | The Fans Of Wandavision Would Know
Agatha Harkness and Wanda had an epic battle of witches in the series Wandavision. As Wanda emerged victorious by defeating Agatha, she took The Darkhold from her. After the events in the series, Wanda is claimed to have studied the book to get all the knowledge she can from it.
The secrets of the book overpower her and have corrupted Wanda in extreme ways. The temptation for more power is too much to take for Wanda and The Darkhold has taken control. So since this has taken place in WandaVision, the events that follow in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are in the continuity of the show.
What Exactly Is The Darkhold? Origins Of The Book!
MCU is no stranger to universe-altering objects. Whether it is the Tesseract or The Darkhold, supernatural things find their place in the universe one way or the other. In Dr. Strange 2, The Darkhold takes center stage and those unfamiliar with the concept must be wondering what it is.
The Book of the Damned as it’s also known as an ancient cosmic book that has unlimited dark powers. Remember Dormammu from the previous Dr. Strange movie and his kingdom of Dark Dimension? The Darkhold is said to be made of the dark matter found in the Dark Dimension ruled by him.
Only those who know magic and are exceptionally talented, (witches like Wanda and Agatha) can use the spells found in the book. This means Dr. Strange himself can potentially use the spells in the book too (which he does in another multiverse so that’s a story for another time.)
History Of The Darkhold In The MCU | Wanda Got Corrupted Before Dr. Strange Happened!
In the series WandaVision, Wanda changes the present reality into a reality where Vision is alive. The two of them are together and they have a happy family with kids. While creating this reality, Wanda takes the entire town of Westview as slaves. Agatha Harkness sneaks into this reality without getting noticed by Wanda at the start.
Agatha gets closer to Wanda and tries to figure out the scope of her powers. At this point, The Darkhold is still present with Agatha. The two witches end up in a confrontation and in the subsequent battle that takes place, we see the Darkhold properly end up with Wanda.
Wanda hears the voices of her children call out from the book which makes her forget sanity. She indulges in the book and the book takes over her. As all hell breaks loose in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the climax of the movie shows us the real Wanda. She realizes her mistake that no reality can make her have the children that she never had.
In an act of ultimate sacrifice, Wanda wipes off The Darkhold from all the multiverses. She does it by ending the source of its dark powers. Her actions take everything from her and we see Wanda end up in red smoke. Does Wanda die? The writer of the movie says it’s open to interpretation. So make of that what you will.
We know that in one of the multiverses, Wanda is alive and hasn’t lost her sanity. Maybe she is together with Vision and has a family. We don’t know that now, but the future sure holds lots of promise.
With these explanations, we leave you with all the information you need on how did Wanda get The Darkhold.
