To begin with the process, the first obvious thing that you need to do is start or record the podcast. Before starting a podcast, make sure that you have planned out everything in advance and you are all ready, to begin with, the podcast. Keep a notepad in front of you so that you don’t miss out on anything important. 

After recording the podcast, edit your audio to remove any background noise such as uneven audio levels, background disturbances, etc. Also, while recording a podcast, be very sure that you are using a good quality microphone. Sometimes we tend to overlook these features thinking what difference they will make, but they make a huge difference. 

Meet the Requirements

The next step is essential for your iTunes podcast journey. Ensure that your podcast follows all the requirements laid down by iTunes to be included in the podcast directory. If you don’t want your submission to be rejected by the official platform, checklist all the requirements by clicking on iTunes Podcast Specs. Besides that, below are a few additional requirements that you need to follow:

  • Your podcast should have a minimum of one episode or a trailer already launched. 
  • Submit the required information such as the podcast description, title, categories, etc. 
  • Upload a cover art that ranges in the minimum to maximum resolution as 1400×1400 JPG to 3000×3000 JPG(or PNG)

To list a podcast on the iTunes directory, you need to host it first. You can choose from a lot of podcast hosting platforms available in the market. Some of the best podcast hosting platforms include Blubrry, PodOmatic, SoundCloud, etc. Choose a platform that suits your requirements the most. 

However, these platforms cannot be used for free. They typically charge you monthly or annually according to the subscription that you choose. These platforms feature a no. of subscription offers for you. 

RSS Feed URL 

The next thing to do is open your podcast hosting platform and copy your content’s RSS feed link. Submit this URL on Apple Podcast to make sure that they list your podcast on the platform. Enter the correct RSS Feed Link to ensure that your content gets submitted easily. However, if you enter the incorrect link, you will be prompted to re-enter the correct one. 

Finding the RSS feed link on your hosting platform should not be a tough task. Almost all of the websites clearly mention how you can retrieve it. Create an iTunes Account

The next obvious step to follow is to create an iTunes account if you haven’t yet. If you are using a friend’s account, make a separate one for your podcasts. If you create a new account, it will give you the complete liberty of changing the name that goes well with your podcast. 

Submit your Podcast 

In recent years, iTunes has introduced a lot of changes to its podcast submitting policies. Earlier you could submit your podcast directly through the iTunes app. But with recent changes, you can submit your podcast on Apple’s dedicated podcast portal iTunes Podcasts Connect. Follow the steps below to submit your podcast on the platform:

  • Log in to your iTunes account and click on iTunes Store. 
  • After clicking, scroll to the bottom on the next screen. There, click on the Podcasts tab under Explore section. 
  • You will find Submit a Podcast on the right side of the screen. Tap on the link to open the Podcasts Connect page. 
  • Once you open the page, use your Apple ID credentials to log in. 
  • Locate the ‘+’ icon on the left side of your dashboard screen. 
  • Enter your RSS feed link on the next screen and then hit Validate. 
  • Once you are done with all the steps above, cross-check all the details you have entered, and once you have verified all the details click on the Submit button. 

Approval 

After following all the above steps, all you have to do is wait for 24 hours to a max of 2 weeks for the approval. Once you submit your podcast, you will receive an email stating that your content is being reviewed and then another email with a link to your active podcast(once it gets approved)

Once your podcast is activated, you can go to your iTunes dashboard to make any changes, monitor your podcast, and add more episodes.
