Twitter is flooding with Maharashtra crisis Live Updates: Shortly after NCP leader Ajit Pawar resigned as the Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister one day ahead of the floor test in Maharashtra state assembly, Devendra Fadnavis in his media address on Tuesday said that he will submit his resignation to the Governor.
Fadnavis announced his resignation in a media gathering at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, hours after the Supreme Court ordered the floor test on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court (SC) ordered a live telecast of the floor test in Maharashtra assembly for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to prove his majority on Wednesday. The top court directed an open secret ballot in a twist to Maharashtra political crisis, and said that a Pro-team speaker should be appointed to conduct the floor test which must be concluded before 5 pm on Wednesday.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was directed by the apex court to ensure that all elected members of the house are sworn in on Wednesday itself. A bench comprising Justices N V Ramana, Ashok Bhushan and Sanjiv Khanna also said the entire proceedings has to be telecast live. It said that the Voting in the assembly shall not be on the basis of secret ballot. The governor will also appoint a pro-tem speaker who will administer oath to the newly elected members.
