Going about the life of a clinically depressed teenager, Charlie, the movie takes us through his story of finally getting freedom from his abused childhood. Having been diagnosed at an early age, Charlie has struggled to make friends or social contact with the people around him. And with his first year just around the corner, he feels further alienated by the pressure of socializing and making friends. 

But things turn around when two siblings, Sam and Patrick, initiate a friendship with him and invite him over for a party. Their friendship blooms, but Charlie struggles to keep up without derailing it now and then. Having been abused in childhood by his Aunt Helen, he becomes repressive to Sam’s s*exual advances. The movie comes about his struggles to make it right with his past and finally move on from it in the present.

The movie revolves around a relationship between two men, Elio and Oliver. Set in Northern Italy, Elio is a shy bibliophile who does not indulge much in meaningless conversations or friendships. His father, an archaeology professor, invites a struggling student, Oliver, to come over and improve his studies over the summer. 

Oliver is the polar opposite of Elio. He enjoys talking to people and has a carefree and confident personality. In the initial days, the two do not like each other much, but, as they say, opposite attracts. Eventually, they end up getting involved sexually and romantically. And as Oliver’s return date approaches, we find out that one loved the other a little more. 

Oliver says to Elio, “Call me by your name, and I’ll call you by mine.” But, not all love stories are meant to be. While Olie falls in love a little more every day, Oliver finds it hard to get on terms with a homosexual relationship. Eventually, he returns to the US, leaving a devastated Olie behind. And over the holidays, the family gets a phone call from Oliver, who informs them about his engagement with a woman he has been dating for a while. A heartbroken Olie calls him by his name, and Oliver responds with his. And the phone call ends simultaneously with their short-lived relationship.

Living in the Indianapolis suburbs, Hazel Grace Lancaster, a thyroid cancer patient, is urged by her mother to attend a cancer support group. She meets Augustus ‘Gus’ Waters, who has lost a leg from osteosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumor. Both of their lives occur after being introduced to each other’s fears and realities. 

Bonded over the shared hobby of reading, both of them recommend their favorite books to each other. Gus gifts Hazel The Prince Of Dawn, while Hazel gives him An Imperial Affliction, a novel from her favorite author, Peter Van Houten, that parallels her cancer-stricken life. 

Falling deeper in love every day, Gus tracks down Hazel’s favorite author and wishes to fly with her to Amsterdam. But as they say, never meet your heroes. Her favorite author Van Houten is a mean-spirited alcoholic, to Hazel’s surprise. He belittles Hazel’s medical condition and taunts her for questioning his fictional work. This leaves her distraught and disheartened, but she wishes to continue her Europe exploration tour with Augustus. But not all love stories stand the test of time. After sharing their first kiss at Anne Frank’s House, Augustus reveals that his cancer has returned and is now terminal. 

Upon returning to Indianapolis, his health deteriorates. He organizes a pre-funeral for his close friends and Hazel and dies exactly eight days later. Hazel, left heartbroken and devastated, is visited by Van Houten, who hands him an address to her, written by Gus. She reads the letter where Gus professes his love and feelings for her. The concluding lines of the letter read, “I like my choices, I hope she does too.” and Hazel responds, “I do, Augustus, I do.”

The movie’s story revolves around the beautiful friendship between Pittsburg teenagers Greg Gaines and Rachel Kushner with Gregs’ coworker’ Earl. Having been diagnosed with Leukemia, Rachel’s parents force her to socialize with people around her. 

Despite having no intentions of maintaining a friendship with Greg and Earl, Rachel finds solace in hearing their stories and telling them hers. During her chemotherapy treatment, she loses her hair and her playful nature. But Greg and Earl make sure to entertain her enough to make her forget about her worries for some time. While trying to cheer her up with one of their silly tactics, they decide to dedicate a film to her and show her. 

But their effort turns to devastation when Rachel falls into a coma shortly after watching the film. She succumbs to her death just 10 hours after watching Greg and Earl’s heartfelt tribute. At her Shiva, her mother reveals Racheal’s wish to give Greg all her possessions. An emotional Greg goes through her belongings and finds pictures of himself, Rachael and Earl carved between the pages of Rachael’s diary.

Sometime after her death, it is revealed that Greg goes on to tell the story of their enduring friendship in his college essays and warns the reader that “the last person who saw this immediately went into a coma and DIED.”

Frances is a struggling dancer in New York City who struggles to make ends meet. She resides with her best friend Sophie in Brooklyn. But her life becomes a little worse when she finds out that Sophie plans on moving to Tribeca, her dream neighborhood. 

Frances moves out of her existing residence to a cheaper one with her struggling finances and friendships. And eventually, they grow apart as Sophie commits her time to her boyfriend, Patch. After making a trip to downtown Sacramento, Frances discovers that Sophie has quit her job and is ready to move to Tokyo. But everything is not as good as it looks. Frances stumbles with Sophie and her boyfriend, Patch, at an Alumni auction. The former best friends discuss their failing relationships and downtrodden careers, and they eventually reconcile. 

Marking a new beginning in life, Frances eventually becomes a fledgling choreographer in her hometown of Sacramento, teaching dance to young little children. Her life seems to work as she rents an apartment and starts seeing Benji romantically. The movie ends with her buying a new mailbox, but her last name doesn’t seem to fit on it, so she folds the paper to read: “Frances Ha.”
