What Is Meta Paid Verification On Instagram?

What Is Meta Paid Verification On Instagram In 2023? Know Here!

A few days ago, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the paid verification option for Instagram and Facebook users in the United States. The feature was first tested in Australia and New Zealand where it turned out to be a hit. And so, Meta is slowly going to roll it out for its US-based users as well.

Using this feature, Instagram users will be able to pay for a blue tick subscription on this social media site. The Meta Verified is priced at $11.99 a month on the web and $14.99 on the mobile. This sounds quite eerily similar to Twitter’s monthly subscription. However, a noteworthy difference is that, Meta is not going to make any changes to the accounts that once get verified according to the company’s previous guidelines.

The Meta Verified feature also offers benefits like protection from impersonation and priority access to Instagram support. Other than that, creators will also get exclusive stickers to use in their Stories and Reels, 100 free stars every month, or digital currency that can be used to tip creators.

To get an account verified, users will have to submit a valid government ID like their passport, driving license, etc. that matches their name and profile picture. Users must also be at least 18 years of age or more. However, businesses can’t apply for Meta Paid Verification just yet.

Also, once someone has applied for the verified badge and received it too, they won’t be able to change their profile name, username, birthdate, or even profile photo. In case they do, they will have to go through the entire verification process again.

In an Instagram broadcast channel, Zuckerberg said that the Meta Verified feature is all about increasing and promoting authenticity on the platform. It is there to make users feel safer because once their account is verified, the chances of getting impersonated are going to be minimal.

In a blog post, Meta mentioned that they want to build a long-term subscription service that provides some sort of value to everyone– creators,  businesses, and the community alike. They also mentioned that they wish to expand and evolve the meaning of the verified badge so that more people can trust the accounts they follow and interact with.

With the Meta Paid Verification, Instagram is going to join the list of other platforms that offer subscriptions. For example, Discord, Reddit, YouTube, etc. As mentioned above, Twitter too had launched its own paid verification service called Twitter Blue back in December. A monthly subscription of Twitter Blue costs $11 for both iOS and Android users.

It is said that the paid verification service, Twitter Blue, is Elon Musk’s attempt to generate more revenue after he bought Twitter for around $44 billion.

But, for Meta, the paid verification option can be considered a separate stream of revenue. It can even be considered necessary given factors like the ongoing recession fear and Apple’s privacy changes. It also seems like Meta has started to take authenticity and privacy concerns a bit more seriously.

So, let’s just hope that the Meta Paid Verification on Instagram is not going to cause a surge in the number of fake verified accounts, as was the case on Twitter last year.
