The story of Kakuriyo No Yadomeshi revolves around the character of Aoi, a young girl who has a special ability to see spirits that are known as ayakashi. One fine day, out of the blue, she gets visited by an ogre. The ogre caught her off guard making a strange demand to pay back her grandfather’s debt which she was unaware of. 

The ogre makes it clear that in order to repay the debt Aoi has to marry him. Naturally, after listening to the demand, she refuses stating how absurd and inappropriate the demand is.
