Challengers is an upcoming American romantic drama film directed by Luca Guadagnino. This special movie is all set to release by the final week of April next year. Zendaya and John O’Connor will be seen playing the lead role, while Mike Faist will feature in the supporting role.

Apart from featuring in the main role, Zendaya also pitched in as a producer in this project. The basic premise of Challengers revolves around three American athletes competing against each other to win the coveted Grand Slam title.

Luca and Justin Kuritzkes collaborated and wrote the screenplay for this project before selecting the filming locations. The initial phase of production of Challengers began in the month of April last year. After Zendaya and other famous actors were signed to play the lead characters, the director and some members of his team started looking for filming locations in and around the state of Massachusetts.

By the first week of May 2022, the principal photography of Challengers began. The majority of the outdoor shots were filmed in and around the city of Boston. As a matter of fact, the production members also captured the interior scenes of Challengers inside a studio in Boston.

The production members arranged all the logistics and acquired the shooting permits before the shooting process began. The entire shooting process of Challengers continued for one and a half months. The opening scene of the film, where we see the character of Tashi and Patrick, was filmed in Boston. The production members used a private tennis court to capture the scenes of the training session. Special shooting permissions were taken before capturing the outdoor scenes of the training court. The production members didn’t make any major changes to the court. However, special lighting equipment was used to capture the sequences of the training session during the night.

The scenes depicting Tashi’s family home were also filmed near the same location. However, the director asked the production members to turn around the interior decor of the house. Additional outdoor scenes from the final quarter of the movie were captured near Allston St. The sequences depicting the final tennis match in the movie were filmed near East Boston Memorial Park. After all these scenes were shot, the production members used a famous studio located in downtown Boston and filmed the remaining interior scenes of this upcoming film.

As I mentioned earlier, the makers were all set to release this film by the second week of September 2023, however, the release date was later changed. The filming crew didn’t face any major issues while the shooting process was going on. If you’re planning to visit Boston later this year, then you can look up the Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park, Boston Common, Public Garden, New England Aquarium, and Quincy Market.
