Initially, Guillermo Del Toro was supposed to direct the movie, but he wanted the film to be a bit different and wanted to direct it according to his choice. But the producers had something else in mind because Del Toro’s movie version was way too scary. Eventually, in April 2021, Justin Simien was hired to direct the film.

Haunted House, unfortunately, turned out to be a box office bomb as it only earned $114 million against a budget of $157 million. The movie received mixed reviews from critics, who were not entirely convinced with the movie’s special effects and screenplay. Filming of the horror comedy movie took place in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Atlanta, Georgia. Principal photography began on 4 October 2021 and was wrapped up by February 2022. The city of New Orleans is best known for its historical architecture. Interestingly, certain areas in the city are known for paranormal activities, which makes it a perfect filming location for the production of the movie. 

The haunted mansion called the Gracey Manor in the movie is known as the Buckner Mansion. It is situated at 1410 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans. The mansion was built in 1856 by a man named Henry Sullivan Buckner, who was a cotton kingpin back in the day. He wanted to own a bigger house than his former business partner and opponent, Frederick Stanton.

The cast and crew shot in multiple locations and establishments across New Orleans, including Preservation Hall at 726 Peter Street, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar at 941 Bourbon Street, Napoleon House at 500 Chartres Street, Voodoo Authentica Inc at 612 Dumaine Street, and Tulane University at 6823 St. Charles Avenue. Some of the other scenes were filmed in Lafayette Cemetery at 1427 Washington Avenue, Royal Street.

Atlanta, Georgia, United States Of America

Atlanta served as the final filming location for the supernatural horror comedy movie. Several scenes were filmed in Atlanta’s metropolitan area. The production team moved around quite a bit for filming in different locations. Besides shooting on location, the cast and crew shot several sequences at Trilith Studios. It is situated at 461 Sandy Creek Road, Fayetteville.

Most of the interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage at the studio. Trilith Studios is home to 24 high-tech soundstages that can be used for filming various projects, including TV shows, movies, and TV commercials. 

Plot Of Haunted Mansion (2023) | The Haunting Of Gracey Manor!

The story of Haunted Mansion revolves around Gabbie, played by Rosario Dawson, a widowed doctor and single mother, who moves to New Orleans from New York with her son, Travis, and buys a mansion called Gracey Manor. She plans to transform the mansion into a Bed and Breakfast. After staying for a few days, Gabbie and Travis feel that something is not right with the mansion. Eventually, they figure out that the Gracey Manor is haunted.

Father Kent, played by a priest and trained exorcist, Owen Wilson, discovers that a new family has moved into Gracey Manor. He immediately visits Ben Mathias, played by LaKeith Stanfield, an astrophysicist turned paranormal guide,  to inform him about the situation. They both visit Gracey Manor to help Gabbie exorcize her newly-bought mansion.
