Where Was The Outpost Filmed? Let’s Know This War Drama Film Closely!

Rod Lurie had directed a number of action thriller films like The Contender, Straw Dogs, and The Last Castle before joining this project. So, the director was pretty sure about the approach he should take in order to capture the imagination of the audience. The director even arranged a special meeting with the author of the actual novel that this film is based on. After clearing a couple of doubts and understanding the subject matter deeply, the director convinced Paul Tamsay and Eric Johnson to write the screenplay for this project.

A couple of days later, the director asked the filming crew to look for suitable filming locations in America. But, as per reports, other creative heads were satisfied with this decision of the director and later convinced Rod to change his mind. Eventually, Rod Lurie took the advice of other creative heads and was finally convinced to film the outdoor scenes of The Outpost internationally. Yet, he checked the production budget for the second time and then asked the production members to search for perfect filming locations in Bulgaria.

It’s true that Rod could’ve filmed the outdoor shots of this movie in any other country. But the fact that the director had previously filmed in Bulgaria also helped him to make the final call. Besides that, the production budget wasn’t high enough to sustain the filming process anywhere else other than Bulgaria. The filming process of The Outpost began in the second week of March 2019 and continued for 2 months or so. During the entire process, the production members filmed the majority of the outdoor scenes in and around the beautiful city of Radomir.

However, the interior shots of The Outpost were captured inside a famous studio in the capital city of Bulgaria. After the shooting process was completed in Sofia, the production members began working on the promotion of the movie. By the second week of May 2019, the entire shooting process of The Outpost was over. So, let us now take a closer look at where was The Outpost filmed. And as I promised earlier, I will also walk you through the plot of this war drama movie.

The opening scene of The Outpost was shot in Radomir. This beautiful Bulgarian town is located in the Pemik Province of Bulgaria. The production members selected a sparsely populated area in Radomir to capture the scenes of the army camp. Even though the shots were captured within a couple of days, the production members took the majority of the time in building the make-believe set of the army camp. Different types of arms and ammunition, tanks, etc, were arranged by the crew to match the actual look and feel of a military camp.

After these scenes were shot, the production members traveled to the outskirts of Radomir and captured the gunfight scenes. Later the filming crew moved to the capital city of Bulgaria and filmed the remaining interior scenes. In fact, all interior scenes of The Outpost were captured inside Nu Boyana Film Studios, Sofia.
