The Plot Of Britannia | What Is Britannia About?

Set in 43 AD, the plot of Britannia revolves around the Roman invasion of Britain. Earlier, Britain used to be made up of several tribes and kingdoms. Each was ruled by a different ruler. Around 90 years ago, Julius Caesar failed to capture Britain.  

But, General Aulus Plautius and Lucius, his second-in-command is unwavering in their dream of conquering Britain. They are ready to do anything it takes to succeed at the task Caesar couldn’t.  But, tribal warrior queens, Queen Antedia and Queen Kerra are determined to not let this happen.

Prague, Czech Republic

Most of the filming of Britannia was done in Prague, Czech Republic. The scenes involving those ancient landscapes were filmed in the Central Bohemian Region. Most of the interior scenes that you will see in Season 1 of the show were filmed in Barrandow Studios located in Prague. 

But, the production unit also had to construct a few sets themselves. The most impressive out of all of them was Amber Palace. It was constructed to be a very convincing replica of Stonehenge. A wide-open field near Morinka was used for the purpose. Apart from that, the scenes involving Regni and Cantii settlements were filmed near Morina village. 

Wales

The production unit created a village near Nash Point in Marcross. However, you won’t get to see the iconic lighthouse in the show, it was kept out of filming. A few scenes were also filmed in Henrhyd Waterfalls. It is the highest waterfall in South Wales. 

Apart from this, filming of Britannia was also done at Rhosilli Bay. It has been declared to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. So, it’s safe to say that Wales contributed some of the most mesmerizing filming locations to the show. 

England

Most of the filming of season 2 was done across England. For example, a part of the filming took place in Broadhaven South Beach located in Pembrokeshire. Other filming locations in England comprised Hertfordshire, Ashridge, and Chobham Common. The Regni tents were set up in all these places for the purpose.

The scenes that portrayed Queen Antedia’s funeral were filmed in Pembrokeshire.  Hertfordshire and Ashridge were used as a setup for the new camps for druids. Woodlands was created in Chobham Common in Surrey.
