Where Was Dead For A Dollar Filmed? Let’s Know This Western Movie Closely!
Director Walter Hill initially wanted to shoot Dead for a Dollar in Mexico. However, he was later talked down by the other production members to refrain from choosing an international shooting site and instead search for potential filming locations in America. The most important aspect was to find a location that could portray the barren and arid backdrop required for the film.
Soon after, the production unit decided to shoot Dead for a Dollar in and around the state of New Mexico. The principal photography began towards the last week of August 2021 and was completed within a month. The short filming duration is owed to the fact that the production unit only had to shoot in one location. Now without waiting any longer, let’s have a detailed discussion about where was Dead for a Dollar filmed. And find out more about the specific shooting sites.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
The production unit arrived in the capital city of New Mexico and readily began filming. The opening sequence of the film was filmed at an uninhibited place located on the outskirts of Santa Fe. The dry and arid terrain was perfect to portray the backdrop that appears in most Western films.
The outdoor shots of the semi-arid steppe were taken, which portrayed Max’s journey from New Mexico to Chihuahua. The other sequences, which featured the old western-styled taverns, were filmed inside a make-believe set constructed by the crew.
The production unit then moved to the downtown area of Santa Fe and finished filming the interior scenes inside a famous studio. Which is located just outside the business center of the city.
Sangre De Cristo, New Mexico
After completing the majority of the filming, the production unit moved to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. The filming crew then captured outdoor scenes of the area, which were used to portray the backdrop of the Mexican desert shown in the film. The unit wrapped up the filming process in less than 4 weeks and then began working on post-production.
