Even though Anna had the option to film the outdoor scenes of the film in Canada, with a lesser shooting budget, she decided to stick to her original idea. Mainly because the director had a certain level of conviction behind her choices and thought the audience would appreciate her authentic approach.
So, after the director reviewed the filming budget, she, along with some other members of her team, scouted a number of filming locations in and around the state of California. After a couple of weeks, the director and the production members were finally able to identify a couple of ideal filming locations in California.
However, the director still needed a separate location to depict the backstory of an important character. So, after the shooting locations in California were selected, Anna asked a couple of members to scout in and around the state of New Mexico.
Finally, the filming crew was able to locate a perfect shooting site in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and submitted the list to Anna. The director visited the final filming location in person and then asked the crew to start filming.
The principal photography of Deadly Illusions commenced in the second week of September 2019 and continued until the month of November 2019. During this time, the majority of the outdoor scenes were captured in and around the state of California.
As I mentioned before, the final quarter of the movie was shot entirely in the state of New Mexico, specifically in Albuquerque. The production members didn’t run into any major issues during the course of the shooting.

The production members took special shooting permission from the owners of Copperfield’s Books Store, located at 850 4th Street, San Rafael. The interior shots from the first quarter of the movie were then filmed inside this bookstore.
Other important sequences of the movie were captured in and around the city of San Francisco. The production members used a luxurious mansion located near the Bay Area of San Francisco to shoot the sequences of Mary’s second home.
The scenes depicting the female lead’s promiscuous relationship with the young nanny were also filmed inside this modern property. In fact, all major scenes inside Mary’s second home were shot here.
The production members didn’t have to make any changes to the property, as the director was okay with the overall decor of the mansion. Additional outdoor scenes of Deadly Illusions were filmed near the Bay Area in San Francisco, after which the production members moved to the next filming location.
