The story of From Here to Eternity is set in around the beautiful locations in Hawaii. Even though this film was shot in black & white, the filming locations which were used in the making were absolutely authentic.
In other words, Fred Zinnermann, the director of this project, decided to shoot all sequences of From Here to Eternity in around the same locations where the story is set in. That’s right, guys, none of the sequences of this incredible movie were captured inside a studio using make-believe sets.
At the very beginning of this project, Zinnermann was certain about the filming locations. So, after the screenplay was adjusted and the auditioning process was over, the production members, along with the director, visited Hawaii in search of ideal shooting sites.
After a couple of weeks, the filming crew were able to find a number of beautiful filming locations in and around Hawaii. After determining that these locations could potentially be used to shoot the outdoor scenes of From Here to Eternity, the crew submitted the list to Zimmermann.
Fred checked the list again and then instructed his crew to commence filming. The principal photography of From Here to Eternity began in the first week of March 1953 and continued till the second week of May of the same year.
Since the production members only had to capture the outdoor sequences in and around Hawaii, not much time was spent traveling. This eventually helped the production members to stay on top of filming dates and finish the shooting process within the estimated timeline.

The basic premise of From Here to Eternity revolves around the character of Robert Lee Prewitt, a young and strong American soldier stationed at an army base in Hawaii. At the very beginning of the movie, the lead actor arrives in Hawaii after getting transferred from his former army base.
