Calgary Region | Alberta, Canada

Principal photography of the supernatural horror comedy, Ghostbusters Afterlife began on 12th July 2019 and was wrapped up by 18th October 2019. The entire filming of the movie took place in and around the province of Alberta in Canada.

The movie is set in the town of Summerville, Oklahoma, but in reality, no such town exists in the state of Oklahoma. The production team filmed in the Canadian province of Alberta in the Calgary Region and a few other places. A few of the scenes were shot in the Walmart Deerfoot City Supercentre, which is a massive supermarket situated at 1110 57 Avenue North East in Calgary.

A handful of scenes were also filmed in a studio called the Calgary Film Center. It’s a huge production facility which is situated at 57050 76 Avenue South East. The production team did an amazing job of creating the perfect and thrilling ambiance in the sound stages of the studio.

A handful of scenes were shot in and around the small town, especially in the region which is located 85 km northwest of Brooks. The thrilling scene where Trevor and Phoebe drive their grandad’s Ectomobile through the cornfield was filmed in the small town of Dorothy. 

One of the scenes shot in this town showcases the historic Dorothy Ferry Bridge, located on Highway 848 over the Red River in the same area. A couple of scenes were also shot along Highway 848.

Drumheller | Alberta, Canada

Drumheller is another small town where the filming of the horror comedy took place. It is located in Starland County in Alberta. Remember the scene where Trevor and Phoebe hang out by a canyon near the climax of the film? That scene was filmed near the Horsethief Canyon, which lies 16 km northwest of the town of Drumheller, in the Alberta badlands. 

The production team chose this particular region because it was quite similar to the rough terrain of Oklahoma. A couple of scenes were also shot along Highway 570.
