The principal photography of It began on 27th June 2016 and was wrapped by 21st September 2016. Numerous scenes were shot in and around the city of Toronto. Toronto is also the capital of Ontario and happens to be one of the largest cities in Canada.

At the beginning of the film, remember the scene where Georgie, Bill’s little brother chases that paper boat and see’s Pennywise for the first time? That particular scene was filmed at the intersection of Springmount Avenue and William Street in Toronto.

A few other scenes were also shot in Carnfield House, which is a historical and popular landmark situated at 450 Pape Avenue near the Riverdale locality. A number of indoor scenes were filmed in the Pinewood Toronto Studios. It is a production company based in Toronto’s Port Lands neighborhood. The studio offers 11 stages for television shows and movie productions.

Most of the filming of It took place in and around Port Hope. Ontario’s municipality took on the appearance of the fictional town of Derry on screen. The Derry Public Library that we witness in the movie is in reality the Port Hope Town Hall. It is a local government office situated at 56 Queen Street.

The production unit turned a shoe shop into a butcher shop for the scene where Ben sees Pennywise for the first time. And Tony’s barber shop that we see in the movie is in reality the Avanti Hair Design store located at 28 Walton Street. The ice cream shop in the movie known as Derry Scoop is actually a tattoo store known as Queen Street Tattoo.

A few other filming locations in Port Hope include Mill Street, Walton Street, Walton Street Bridge, Queen Street, Robertson Street, Cavan Street, Highland Drive, Trafalgar Street, Sullivan Street and Ravine Drive.

The city of Oshawa was the last filming location for the sci/fi horror film, It. Oshawa is widely known as a scenic city located on the Lake Ontario shoreline. A number of important scenes were shot in the residential areas of Eulalie Avenue and James Street near downtown Oshawa.

The house where Pennywise resided was a set built by the production team on vacant land located at the end of James Street. Most of the haunted house sequences were filmed here, including the scenes portraying Ben’s house on Court and Fisher Street.
