Are you, too, a fan of the March sisters– Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth? Whenever you feel low, do you find yourself rewatching Little Women (2019) and other marvelous movies like it? Well, I, too, feel like running away to the period and place where the March sisters lived. That’s not possible for obvious reasons, though. But, I do intend on visiting the filming locations of this movie someday. If you’re like me, keep reading to know where was Little Women filmed

Little Women is based on a novel of the same name written by Lousie May Alcott. I’m always very skeptical about watching movies based on novels because the former seldom do justice to the literary text. And the grave injustice leaves me quite disappointed (and pissed). However, the 2019 adaptation of Little Women has been kind enough to satisfy the OG fans of Little Women.

So, Little Women is set in New England right after the American Civil War happened. But, the 2019 movie adaptation of the film is almost entirely set in Massachusetts. Different locations, like William Hickling Prescott House, Fairmont Copley Plaza, Arnold Arboretum, etc., were used to film different scenes.

But, in case you plan to visit all the filming locations of Little Women, I think you need a little more information. Because only then you’ll be able to recreate the experience of the March sisters properly. So, keep scrolling through because I’ll be providing you with all the fun details below!

The Plot Of Little Women | What Is Little Women About?

Set in the 19th century, Little Women revolves around the life of four sisters (Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth) who live with their mother and matriarch of the March family, ‘Marmee,’ in Massachusetts. With their father serving in the Civil War, the family is left to provide for themselves.

The story is told from the perspective of Jo March (played by Saoirse Ronan). Several years after the Civil War, Jo lives her dream life as a writer in New York City. She strives to make a name for herself in a world that is deeply patriarchal. Her sister, Amy March (Florence Pugh), studies painting in Paris. The ever-so-considerate Meg (played by Emma Watson) is married to a school teacher.

Whereas Beth (played by Eliza Scanlen) is suffering from a devastating illness in their hometown. When the news of their sister’s condition reaches the others, the four sisters reconcile.

The Arnold Arboretum is located at Harvard University. It is basically a museum that deals with plants and trees. In Little Women, it was used to film scenes involving the Parisian park. Yes, I’m talking about the Meryl Streep and Timpotee Chalamet one.

Anyways, Arnold Arboretum is open to visitors. You don’t even have to pay for a ticket. There are guided tours of the museum as well–they too are for free. The prerequisite for availing of them is to book well in advance.

Fairmont Copley Plaza, Boston

Fairmont Copley Plaza was used to film scenes that were meant to depict Paris. To be more specific, the Grand Ballroom of this place was used to portray Amy’s New Year’s Eve Ball.

You’re not going to like this, but this filming location is not open to visitors, so you can’t visit. There’s still a workaround to this, though. If you ever visit Boston and decide to stay at Fairmont Copley Plaza, you can ask to have a look inside the ballroom. It’s worth the risk.
