She comes to know that her co-singer is in reality a disgraceful cheat, who is involved in a scandalous affair with his (Bastian) assistant.
Kat, spontaneously decides to get hitched with a fan standing in the crowd with a “Marry Me” signboard. The man introduces himself as Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), a mathematics teacher at a nearby highschool, as the couple begin to stream the ceremony online.
But in an unexpected turn of events, Bastian comes back to meet Kat, to get back on previous terms. It makes Charlie second guess his former decision and eventually he ends the marriage.
The couple part ways with each other. However, Kat later confesses about her love on LIVE TV, with the song On My Way dedicated to Charlie. What started off as a publicity stunt grew into something special, as the couple finally agreed to stay true to their vows and live happily together. Where Was Marry Me Filmed? Let’s Know The Movie Closely!
The production began filming in October 2019 and completed it in almost two months time! Director Kat and her crew members decided to shoot the film in and around the state of New York. Brooklyn and Manhattan were chosen as the central locations for filming the movie. So without further ado, let’s find out more about these scenic locations!
Brooklyn, New York
The American feel good romantic flick Marry Me, began shooting the majority of the sequences in Brooklyn. The opening scene of Kat’s concert, where she meets Charlie for the first time, was actually recreated by making a temporary stage that featured in the film. The logistics required to set up a look-alike concert stage were hard to transport because of the famous bad traffic of the city.
However, the production crew improvised, and airlifted most of the make-shift stage materials and dropped it in Brooklyn, at the filming spot. Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, at Coney Islands, featured in the film in the scene where Charlie goes out with his daughter Lou.
The production crew had to bring in special lighting tools to capture the sequence at night with proper lighting. Although they had to struggle a bit while managing the crowd, as the fans of Owen Wilson and Jennifer Lopez were swarming at the filming spot.
Other outdoor scenes were filmed at 94 Greene Avenue, Brooklyn. Such as the sequence where the male lead actor of the film is shown getting into an argument with his friend Colin, on the corner of Prospects Drug store.
Some interior scenes were filmed at Red Hook, Brooklyn where Charlie and Kat spent their time alone on their first date. This particular sequence was shot during the evening, to capture the mild pastel color of the sky and the natural lights, to make the scene look more romantic on screen.
Manhattan, New York City
Finally, the scene where Kat Confesses her love for Charlie on TV was filmed in Manhattan. The outdoor shot of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, was filmed at the actual location of the show. Special arrangements had to be made with the producers of the show, but director Kat and the production unit managed the situation deftly.
One of the most highly populated boroughs of New York City, filming in Manhattan ironically was not challenging at all. The production unit was well prepared in advance with the logistics and crew members while they were shooting a handful of final scenes at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan.
Legendary TV shows, such as Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, American Chopper and Late Night with David Letterman were also filmed at the same location.
