The entire filming of the romantic drama movie Mystic Christmas took place in Connecticut, primarily in Mystic. Principal photography of the movie began in May 2023.  The cast and crew filmed in and around Mystic, which is a village and census-designated area near the towns of Groton and Stonington. 

The director and the production team wanted to shoot the film on location and deliberately chose to shoot in Mystic. The cast and crew set up camp near the Mystic Seaport Museum, which is also known as Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America And The Sea. It is situated at 75 Greenmanville Avenue. The museum was established in 1929 and is known for its excellent sailing ships and boats collection. 

The large anchor at the entrance of the museum was not originally there. The production team put it up to enhance the look. A portion of the romantic drama movie was also filmed at the Mystic Aquarium, which is located at 55 Coogan Boulevard. Sawyer’s pizza shop scenes were filmed at Mango’s Wood-Fired Pizza Co. located at 27 Coogan Boulevard Building 8, Mystic.

The story of Mystic Christmas revolves around the character of Juniper Jones, played by Jessy Schram. Juniper is a well-established marine biologist who is a self-admitted introvert. She loves to travel and doesn’t stay for long in one place. As she was about to leave for Scandinavia from Amsterdam, she got a call from her best friend Candice Adams, played by Patti Murin, who lives in Connecticut.

Candice works at the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, and she called Juniper to ask for a favor as she is in a bit of a crisis. Candice asks Juniper if she can come to Connecticut to work as a head marine biologist at her aquarium for a few days to look after an injured harbor seal. She finally agrees and comes down to help her. 

After reaching Connecticut, Juniper comes across Sawyer, played by Chandler Massey, whom she met several years ago at Candice’s wedding. Both of them spent a memorable couple of days but then lost touch. Finally, when they meet after so many years, they both wonder if they can work things out this time.
