Sisters is a British riveting thriller flick that was released in the winter of 1972 in Britain. Almost 6 months later, this horror movie was theatrically released in other countries. Brian de Palma and Louisa Rose co-wrote the screenplay for this project, while Margot Kidder played the lead role.
The basic premise of Sisters revolves around the character of Danielle Breton, a Tv news reporter living in Staten Island. The plot thickens when the female lead witnesses a horrific murder and reports it to the nearest police station.
The commercial performance of this horror film was better in England than anywhere else in the world. The makers weren’t elated with the collection at the box office, but they were happy to see the positive reaction of critics and the audience. Even though Sisters managed to collect a prestigious nomination, this bone-chilling film still didn’t win a major award.

Where Was Sisters Filmed? Let’s Know This Horror Thriller Flick Closely!
The story of Sisters is set in the eastern state of New York, specifically in Staten Island. Interestingly enough, the outdoor scenes of this riveting movie were also filmed in and around the same location.
During the initial days of production, De Palma and his crew started looking for potential filming locations in and around the state of New York. The director wanted to use authentic filming locations right from the beginning of the project.
So, instead of looking for better options in any other locations in America, the director directly instructed the crew to scout in New York. This decision of De Palma eventually proved to be right and saved a lot of time and money.
The principal photography of Sisters commenced in the first week of June 1972 and continued till the final week of August of the same year. The majority of the outdoor scenes were captured in the city of New York.
However, not all shots of Sisters were captured in and around this same location. De Palma also asked the crew to capture some scenes in Staten Island and New Jersey. During the entire course of shooting, the production members didn’t face any major issues.
But, while the crew was filming in Staten Island, they ran into a minor issue with the logistics. The special camera equipment and lights which were supposed to be delivered on set, arrived at the shooting spot pretty late.
As per reports, the director immediately changed the transportation company and solved the matter. However, due to this matter, the production members couldn’t shoot for a couple of days, as they needed special equipment to shoot the long tracking scenes.
Let us now discuss in detail where was Sisters filmed. Furthermore, I’ll give you an overview of this horror film as well.
New York | USA

The opening scene of the movie, where we see the character of Danielle Breton, was filmed in the Midtown Manhattan area. The production members used the Time-Life Building located at 1271 Avenue of America, Midtown Manhattan, to capture the scenes of Breton’s office.
Other outdoor scenes of Sisters were filmed near Victory Boulevard, Staten Island. Such as the scene where Phillip walks out of the drug store was filmed outside of a vacant shop located at 1749 Victory Boulevard.
However, the production members had to turn around the entire shop to make it look like a drug store before filming this iconic scene. Other important scenes in Staten Island were filmed in the Alexander Hamilton Building located at 36 Hamilton Avenue, Staten Island.
The production members mainly used this building to depict the interior scenes of Breton’s apartment in New York. After all these scenes were shot by the crew, they moved to the next filming location.
The final scene of the movie, where we see the exterior shot of a shady railway station on Cemetery Road, was filmed in Great Meadows, New Jersey. The entire shooting process of Sisters ended by the first week of August 1972.
