Later the Canadian cities of Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto were finalized. Although Chris also wanted to film a few sequences in New York, and thus he later added another shooting location to the list. The principal photography began in February 1999 and went on for the next 3 months. The opening scene of the film, where we see the young characters in the film, knackering their moms to keep them from going to school, was filmed in the city of Syracuse. Other exterior shots of the snow-covered city were also filmed, which were later used for establishing scenes. The filming crew then moved to Canada and captured the remaining sequences of this super-entertaining flick.

Edmonton, Alberta | USA

The majority of the sequences of Snow Day were filmed in and around the city of Edmonton. However, the unforgiving sub-zero weather of this gorgeous Canadian city almost spoiled the filming plans and delayed the entire project for a number of weeks. But as the snowstorms passed, and the weather became more manageable, the crew resumed capturing the outdoor scenes. Exterior shots of the North Saskatchewan River and Sherwood Park were filmed, after which the members moved to the next filming location in Canada.

Toronto, Ontario | Canada

The production members then arrived in the city of Toronto and readily began scouting for a vacant school, to make up for the lost time. Soon the crew located a private school located in the north-western part of the city and used it to capture the sequences of the American public school shown in the film. A number of young actors were under the weather by the end of the filming schedule, but luckily recovered after consulting with a medic on-set, and continued shooting.

Filming lasted for about a month and a half, during which a couple of outdoor shots of Toronto were captured. The production members then returned to America and finished filming the interior sequences inside a renowned studio.
