The Batman became an astounding success, commercially. This film managed to gross over $770 million in worldwide collections, against the production budget of $200 million. This intense action film earned over 112 prestigious nominations and won 19 awards in total.

Where Was The Batman Filmed? Let’s Know This Crime Action Film Closely!

As the makers of The Batman had a considerably high production budget to work with, they decided to explore potential filming locations internationally. The makers asked the members to scout a bunch of locations in and around the central part of Europe.

However, when the creative heads visited the scouted locations in person, they were not satisfied with the setting. Thus, another special team was sent to look for ideal filming locations in the UK. 

Then finally, the production members decided to shoot the film in various places in England and Scotland. Although, important to mention that a few sequences were also shot in America, specifically in the city of Chicago. 

The Batman was filmed in two parts. The first part of the principal photography commenced in the last week of January 2020 and continued for 12 weeks. The second phase of the shooting later resumed in the month of September of the same year and continued till March 2021.

The filming schedule got apparently stretched, due to the onset of Covid-19, which brought the entire world to a standstill. So, without waiting any longer, let’s discuss where was The Batman filmed in-depth, and find out more about the specific shooting locations.

London, Liverpool | England

Where Was The Batman Filmed? Gotham’s Caped Crusader Is Back!!

The opening sequence of the film, where we see the entrance to the Batcave, was actually filmed in London. The Kingsway Tram Tunnel, located at Southampton Row was used to capture this magnificent outdoor sequence of the film.

A few other pivotal scenes, such as the interior scene of the Iceberg Lounge was shot inside Printworks Nightclub, situated at Surrey Quays Rd in London. The production members had to use special lighting equipment to capture this interior sequence inside the nightclub.

Other significant outdoor sequences were then captured in and around the city of Liverpool. The famous St George’s Hall located in the heart of this city was used to portray Gotham City Hall in the film.  In Fact, the sequences depicting the Gotham General Hospital and Central Courthouse were also captured in Liverpool.

Scotland | UK

The production members then traveled to Scotland, to capture some more outdoor sequences. The exterior shots of the Gotham Orphanage shown in the movie were filmed inside Hartwood Psychiatric Hospital in Shotts. The final sequence of the movie was then captured inside the Necropolis Cemetery located on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Chicago, Illinois | USA

As mentioned, the filming of The Batman was done in two halves. The second phase of filming took place entirely in America. Sequences depicting the Gotham Square Garden in the film were captured inside James R. Thompson Center located at 100 W Randolph St. 

The intense action scene of the film, where we see Batman riding a tricked-out motorcycle, was actually filmed on LaSalle Street Bridge in Chicago. A considerable amount of money and time was spent to capture this exhilarating scene. 

A few other major shots were then captured in and around various locations in Chicago, after which the production members wrapped the entire filming process.
