The filming crew at first scouted a number of locations in and around Alabama and Texas. But after the makers weren’t satisfied with the overall look of the backdrop, they decided to look around other places in America.

Months passed by; however, the team couldn’t finalize the main shooting location. Eventually, the makers of The Evil Dead decided to shoot the entire film in Tennessee after acquiring shooting permission.

The principal photography began in the second week of November 1979 and continued till the fourth week of January 1980. The shooting schedule was quite long, and as per reports, the production members strived to complete the shooting close to the original timeline.
