During the initial stage of production, the shooting budget of The Mexican was less than $25 million. So, keeping the filming budget in mind, the director thought of filming all the outdoor scenes of this film in and around America only.
But, after the production budget was revised later on, the director had the option to capture the exterior shots of The Mexican even in International filming locations. So, the filming locations which were scouted in Texas during the initial stages of production did not make it to the final list.
However, the potential filming locations in Nevada remained as the main filming locations. Only the shooting locations in Texas were replaced by suitable filming locations in Mexico. The principal photography of The Mexican began in the third week of April 2000 and continued until the first week of July of the same year.
The majority of the outdoor shots were captured in and around the state of Nevada, whereas some important scenes were also filmed in Mexico. But before the production members moved to Mexico, they captured most of the outdoor scenes in Nevada, specifically in Las Vegas, during the first phase of filming.

Other important outdoor scenes of The Mexican were filmed near Summerlin Parkway. The production members used a small-sized house located near Summerlin Parkway to capture the scenes of Jerry and Samantha’s home.
Additional outdoor scenes were shot near McCarran International Airport, located at 5757 Wayne Newton Boulevard, Las Vegas. After these scenes were shot, the production members moved to Mexico.

The outdoor scenes from the final quarter of the movie were shot in Mexico. The production members selected a medium-sized warehouse located in Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosi, and filmed the gun trafficking scene.
Some more scenes were captured in and around Tunnel Orgasio, San Luis Potosi, after which the shooting process in Mexico ended.
