The massive mountaintop fortress that the soldiers raid known as the Schloss Adler, was shot at the Burg Hohenwerfen Castle located in a place called Werfen, in Austria.

The filming of Where Eagles Dare began on 2nd January 1968 and was wrapped up in July 1968. The shooting of the film was carried on in harsh winter weather.
