Principal photography of Wild began on 11th October 2013. As the movie was shot in multiple places throughout Oregon, Crater Lake was one of the major locations where a number of important scenes were filmed. It is located in south-central Oregon in Klamath County. Crater Lake is a caldera lake and the primary and most popular attraction of Crater Lake National Park.

The Crater Lake is 2,100-foot deep and was formed over 7,700 years ago, during the collapse of Mount Mazama. The lake is widely known for its clear deep blue color water. Interestingly, it is one of the deepest lakes in all of America with no waterways flowing into or out of the lake.

Not many people know but the lake has been renamed three times, it was originally known as Deep Blue Lake, then it was changed to Blue Lake followed by Lake Majesty. Finally, it was named Crater Lake and continues to be so. It is believed that back in the day the Native Americans used to consider Crater Lake as a holy and spiritual lake.

Several notable scenes were filmed in Crater Lake and Crater National Park. If you ever visit this location, in order to enjoy the mind-blowing view of the whole area, you have to take a detour from the usual trail. There is a smaller path that leads to the edge of the crater from where you can witness the magnificent view of the entire park including the lake.

Portland is known as a bohemian city and most of the city scenes in the movie were filmed here. The scene where Cheryl argues with her husband, while he drives the car, was shot on Portland’s Interstate 5 Bridge. In the scene where Cheryl reveals that she is expecting, to her friend, in a Mexican restaurant, that particular restaurant is located on Northwest Davis Street in Portland.

In the scene where she has her dinner all alone, by herself just before the date night was shot in the Breadboard Restaurant in Ashland. Though it was a short sequence, it was filmed at the restaurant’s outdoor area, where Cheryle enjoys her first real meal, a burger, after a long week. From that outdoor area, the view of the Grizzly Peak and the hills surrounding the Rogue Valley was simply phenomenal.

Few of the popular movies that were filmed in Oregon are Robert Pattinson starrer Twilight, Sean Penn’s Into The Wild, Jennifer Connelly and Jennifer Aniston starrer He’s Just Not That Into You, and the musical comedy movie Metal Lords.
