Where Was Willow Filmed? Let’s Know This Fantasy Series Closely!!

The makers of Willow were not certain while deciding on the shooting location of this series. As the majority of the magical events depicted in the show take place in enchanted terrain, the use of VFX and CGI had to be on point. Thus, the production unit scouted a number of studios and reached the final conclusion to establish a contract with the Dragon Studios in Wales.

The majority of the filming was done in Dragon Studios, while some outdoor sequences that featured in the series were captured at different locations in Wales. The principal photography commenced in June 2021 and was completed in more or less 4 months. Now, without waiting any longer, let’s have a detailed discussion about where Willow was filmed, and find out more about the specific shooting sites.

Rhondda Cynon Taf | Wales

The first filming location that the production unit arrived at was the borough county of Rhondda Cynon Taf, after reaching Wales. The opening sequence of the series was filmed here, after which the production unit moved to the village of Llanharan. The Dragon Studios, located in this village, was primarily used to shoot most of the sequences of Willow, including his home. Even the scene where Kit is shown practicing archery with her friend Jade was filmed inside a set constructed by the filming crew. The outdoor sequence of the village of Nelwyn, shown in the series, was captured on a different set.

Carmarthen Bay | Wales

After completing the majority of the filming in the Dragon Studios, the production unit arrived at the southern coast of Wales on the shore of Carmarthen Bay. The sequence which portrays the dreary castle of the evil queen and her lands was filmed on the beach of Pendine Sands. This 7-mile-long beach was strategically used to capture the ending sequence of the series and was later morphed digitally to make it appear scarier. Some other pivotal scenes were filmed in the nearby areas before the filming crew began working on post productions.

Where Was Willow Filmed? Filming Locations Of An Epic New Series!!

At the very beginning of the series, we are introduced to the central character of Willow (played by Warwick Davis) a skilful dwarf magician from the village of Nelwyn, who has got enough of the delirious evil queen and takes an oath to end her reign.

Later in the series, Willow unites a group of six heroes and inspires them to embark on an enchanted journey to throw out the evil that has festered their land for some time, by ousting the queen. In the initial episodes, Willow finds the character of Kit, the daughter of Sorsha, who’s hellbent to rescue her twin brothers, along with her best friend, Jade. Soon after, a culinary artist from the village of Nelwyn also forms an alliance with Kit.

As the trio is shown to take rudimentary training in sorcery from Willow, the character of Graydon appears and expresses his grief to the sorcerer. Willow readily understands the pain of the literary genius and happily inducts him into the team along with Boorman.

Eventually, Sorsha, Kit’s mother, after learning about her daughter’s ultimate wish, also decides to join her on the quest. Willow, disapproving at first, later agrees to induct her as well. What started off as a small group of three untrained members had now turned into a powerful group of six, after completing their training in combat and sorcery.

Finally, the six members start off on the journey to destroy the evil forces and restore peace in their village. Now I won’t spoil the fun for you, by giving out all the spoilers! Watch the series, to unveil what happens next.
