The production formed a special team of 6 members and tasked them to scout for idyllic filming locations in and around the state of New York.

Later, a number of locations in New York were shortlisted which director John Putch finalized on a few sites. The principal photography began in the middle of January this year and was completed in more or less 2 months.

The Karpeles Manuscript Library, which is located at the heart of Newburgh city, was used by the unit. The crew took special permission to film inside the premise of this historic library, famed for its vast archives.

A few other exterior shots were captured, after which the production moved to the next filming location in New York.

The story of A Holiday Spectacular is set in the 1950s. Thus, the crew could only shoot in certain places in New York, which has the same kind of retro look. Thankfully, these vintage locations of this happening city were scouted by the crew, way before the filming began. So, after arriving in New York, the crew readily began capturing the exterior shots of the iconic Radio City Music Hall. Maggie’s dance group eventually arrives at this place to perform live on stage. Filming lasted for about a week or so and then the crew moved to the other side of New York. 

A classic themed diner, located at Hyde Park, was used by the crew to capture the interior sequence where the female lead gets introduced to a famous singer in the film. The production unit only made a few adjustments, as the inside decor of the diner was perfect to depict a medium-sized eatery of the 1950s.

A number of sequences were filmed around the state of New York, in different cities. However, the most pivotal scenes were filmed in Albany, Garrison and Kingston. The significant exterior shot of Maggie’s family home was captured in Dutchess County. A reasonably small-sized Victorian home, located on the outskirts of Dutchess County was to film the outdoor shots. All other major interior scenes were filmed inside a well-equipped studio in New York.

The story of A Holiday Spectacular revolves around the character of Maggie, a young and independent American woman, looking to break away from the chains of society and pursue her dreams. At the very beginning of the film, we see Maggie, living with her aunt and grandma in a small home located in Philadelphia.

Later in the film, when the female lead gets acquainted with a famous singer at a local diner, she is shown to be instantly charmed. As the story gradually progresses, Maggie’s inner voice provokes her to explore her talent in dancing. However, as soon as she reveals her dream of joining a dance group and performing live on stage, the female lead gets shunned by her grandma.
