Where Was A Royal Corgi Christmas Filmed? Let’s Know This Romantic Film Closely!
Like most other films by Hallmark, A Royal Corgi Christmas was filmed in Canada. But surprisingly the production unit filmed the majority of the sequences, overseas in Ireland. The decision to film in Canada, specifically around the province of British Columbia, was to take advantage of the filming tax credit. And to capture the sequences featuring Cecily’s hometown as well.
The principal photography began in the middle of September this year and was completed by the end of October. The shooting took place in two parts, simultaneously. The first part was filmed in Ireland, mostly in the city of Dublin, while the second part was filmed in Vancouver. The entire filming process was completed in a little over a month’s time, as the crew worked in multiple shifts.
No major mishaps took place inside the set or on locations during the shooting. Now, without waiting any longer, let’s discuss where was A Royal Corgi Christmas filmed, in-depth. And explore more about the specific shooting locations.
County Dublin | Ireland
The opening scene of the film, where we are acquainted with the character of Prince Edmond, inside his castle, was filmed in Balbriggan. This coastal town in Fingal, located in the northern part of County Dublin, was used to shoot a number of outdoor scenes. The production unit extensively filmed the outdoor shots of the Ardgillan Castle located here.
The unit arranged for special permissions from the Irish government, to film inside the castle. Special attention was paid, to make sure none of the historic artifacts was damaged while shooting interior sequences. The crew arranged all the necessary logistics required for filming in time, to stay on top of the filming dates.
The main attraction Bon-Bon, depicting the “Royal Corgi” in the film, was arranged by the crew from his Irish owners. After the majority of the scenes featuring Bon-Bon were completed, the corgi was returned safely. Some other pivotal sequences were filmed in and around the city of Dublin, after which the crew returned to Canada to join the second unit.
Vancouver, British Columbia
While the majority of the sequences were being filmed overseas in Ireland, a small number of crew members stayed back in Canada, to capture the establishing scenes. A renowned studio located at the heart of Vancouver was used to film the “Royal Christmas Ball”. The crew also traveled to the exterior part of this bustling city to locate a small-sized home. This old-fashioned house was used to shoot the outdoor shots of Cecily’s family home shown in the film. However, the interior sequences were captured inside a well-equipped studio, which was used previously.
In case you’re planning to visit Canada this holiday season, be sure to look into Grouse Mountain & Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, Granville Island, Stanley Park, Horseshoe Bay and Shannon Park which are often visited by tourists from around the world.
