The American sports action flick, All the Right Moves released almost 40 years back, was inspired by Michael Kane’s fictional story. Michael Chapman, directed this super-intriguing film, after acquiring the shooting rights from Kane, and later convinced him to join this project.

The basic premise of All the Right Moves revolves around the character of Stefen Djordjevic, a young American rugby player, living in Pennsylvania. The plot thickens when the young athlete gives it all in, to win a very important match.

All the Right Moves, performed well at the box office. This awe-inspiring movie went on to gross over $17 million at the box office, against the production budget of just $5 million. However, All the Right Moves didn’t win any major awards over the years. Fans of Tom Cruise, on the other hand, enjoyed the stellar performance of Cruise in the lead role.

Now, if you’re excited to find out where was All the Right Moves filmed, then let’s get right to it.

Where Was All The Right Moves FIlmed? Let’s Know This Sports Drama Flick Closely!

The story of All the Right Moves takes place in a small town located in the western part of Pennsylvania. I think you’d be amazed to know that the shooting of this film also took place on location. In other words, the sequences shown in the movie, for example, the football grounds, market, and shops, actually exist around the state of Pennsylvania.

But, before Michael Chapman could choose the filming location for his film, he had to confer with other creative heads of the unit. Thus after the makers of All the Right Moves reached a mutual decision, they asked the production members to scout for ideal shooting spots.

The filming crew subsequently looked around a number of places in Pennsylvania, and eventually submitted the list of potential filming locations. The makers then reviewed the same list and selected suitable sites.

Important to mention that, the majority of the shooting takes place in Pittsburgh and Johnstown. Whereas a few sequences of the movie were also filmed around the township of Conemaugh.

The principal photography of All the Right Moves began in the second week of March 1983 and continued for one month or so. As the production members only had to shoot around a handful of locations, the filming schedule wasn’t as long as other films.

The shooting schedule remained unchanged, as the filming crew also acquired the shooting permissions and logistics in time. This immensely helped the team to stay on track and save a lot of time and production money.

Now, if you’re ready to know where was All the Right Moves, then without waiting any longer, let’s dive right in!

Johnstown, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | USA

Where Was All The Right Moves Filmed? Tom Cruise’s Iconic Sports Drama Flick!!

The opening sequence of the movie, where we see the young and dynamic character of Stef, playing American football, was filmed in Johnstown. The city of Johnstown is considered an integral part of Cambria County, Pennsylvania.

Plus Johnstown being the largest city in this county, also makes it a cultural and business hub of Pennsylvania. So the sequences depicting the small town in which Stef grew up as an athlete and as a man, were all filmed in and around this iconic city.

The production members arranged a small-sized home, which was located near Lincoln Street in Johnstown. The interior sequences of Stef’s family home in Pennsylvania were all filmed inside this property. Thankfully, the production members weren’t required to make a lot of changes to the overall structure of the house.

The most significant sequence of All the Right Moves, depicting the rugby match, which changes Stef’s athletic career, was filmed inside an actual stadium. The production members took special shooting permission from the authorities of the Point Stadium, located at 100 Johns St.

The sequence of the final rugby match in the movie was then filmed inside this stadium. However, the actors had to take special classes and undergo physical training from a certified coach, before performing the stunt scenes of the game.

Additional sequences of the movie were captured around Pittsburgh and the township of Conemaugh. The production members then wrapped the entire shooting process.
