Where Was Blue Beetle Filmed? Let’s Know This Superhero Flick Closely!

The story of Blue Beetle is set in Mexico. But the actual shooting of this film took place in several locations in America. The makers of Blue Beetle didn’t want to film in Mexico, mainly because of the lack of infrastructure which supports shooting.

Plus, the director of this movie, Angel Manuel Solo, always wanted to shoot in beautiful locations in Puerto Rico. Thus the scenes of Mexico shown in the movie were actually filmed in the exotic locations of Puerto Rico.

But before any of this happened, Solo and his team looked for a number of ideal filming locations in America. During the initial stages of production, the filming crew was sent to New Mexico and Texas and were asked to scout for ideal shooting spots.

Later the director also formed a separate team and asked them to scout in other southern states, such as Alabama and Tennessee. However, after Solo wasn’t pleased with the overall look of the places, he eventually decided to shoot the majority of the sequences in California and Georgia.

The principal photography of Blue Beetle began in the month of May last year and continued till the end of June. It’s important to mention that, apart from the breathtaking scenes filmed in Puerto Rico, most of the filming took place in Los Angeles and Decatur.

During the course of the shooting, the production members didn’t run into any major issues and were able to follow the shooting schedule. So, without wasting time, let’s discuss where Blue Beetle was filmed exactly.

Los Angeles, California | USA

The film’s opening sequence, where we see the character of James Reyes attending the convocation ceremony at his college, was actually filmed in Los Angeles. The production members took special shooting permission from the administrative department of a public college.

The interior shots of the convocation ceremony were then filmed inside the auditorium of this public college, which is located in the southern region of Los Angeles. Other important sequences of the movie were also filmed in the downtown area of L.A., after which the crew moved to the next shooting location.

Decatur, Georgia | USA

The sequences depicting James’ return to his hometown in Palmera City were shot in and around Decatur. This is located near the northeastern region of Atlanta and holds huge historical and cultural significance. A number of well-maintained museums preserving the artifacts from the Civil War are there in Decatur.

So coming back to the filming locations of  Blue Beetle, the production members used a small-sized home located near Woodlands Garden to capture the scenes of James’ home.

Other Filming Locations

The final sequence of the movie, depicting the beach scene where James unleashes the armor of Blue Beetle for the last time, was filmed in Puerto Rico. The shooting process of Blue Beetle ended by the final week of June last year.
