The story of Class of 09 is set in multiple regions in America. However, most of the events depicted in the show occur in Quantico, Montana, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
Some minor sequences of the show were also captured in and around the state of New Jersey, which is located on the East Coast. To keep the filming cost within the production budget, Tom and his team decided to shoot the majority of the scenes in America.
Besides that, Tom also wanted to film in authentic locations instead of filming the majority of the outdoor scenes inside a studio. So, at the beginning of this project, Tom Rob Smith and his team scouted for ideal filming locations in and around Quantico, Virginia, and Philadelphia.
Since Tom was well-acquainted with the shooting spots in Montana and Philadelphia, it didn’t take much time for him to scout the locations there. The shooting locations in New Jersey were selected at last, as only a handful of scenes were to be shot there.
The principal photography of the Class of 09 began last year, in the final week of August. The shooting process continued for two and a half months in total. During this time, the production members shot the majority of the outdoor scenes in Quantico, Montana, and Washington, D.C.
A handful of outdoor scenes in New Jersey were shot in the final phase of the shooting process. It’s important to mention that Tom and other creative heads were hoping to release this show on Hulu last year as the shooting process was completed rather quickly.
However, due to a number of issues that emerged during the post-production process, the release date of Class of 09 was changed. Eventually, this incredibly engrossing show premiered on Hulu in May 2023.

The outdoor scenes from the pilot episode of Class of 09 were filmed on the outskirts of Quantico. The scene where we see the FBI recruits Ashley, Murphy, Tayo, and Daniels training inside a well-organized facility was actually shot inside a vacant building.

Additional outdoor scenes from the second half of Class of 09 were captured in the city of Billings, Montana. Billings is located in the southern part of Montana, on the banks of the Yellowstone River.
Over the years, a number of filmmakers have captured beautiful shots for their films and shows in Billings, Montana. The cave paintings, rimrocks, and sandstone cliffs have certainly attracted numerous artists and nature lovers.
