Where Was Death Proof Filmed? Let’s Know This Action Thriller Flick Closely!
Quentin wanted to shoot the entire film on location, right from the initial days of pre-productions. Thus, after writing the screenplay of Death Proof, Tarantino began looking for ideal filming locations in and around the city of Austin.
Various other locations in other cities of Texas were scouted as well. But, the overall look which Tarantino wanted for his film, was only matching with the setting of Austin. So, the director asked the production members to prepare for shooting after he selected the main filming locations.
Although, important to mention that some pivotal sequences of Death Proof, were filmed in California as well. The majority of the shooting took place in and around the city of Austin. The principal photography commenced in the last week of August 2006 and continued until the month of December, of the same year.
The filming schedule was slightly delayed, due to a minor accident which took place on set while shooting. But, luckily no actors or crew members were harmed. Other than this unfortunate incident, the crew managed to film the sequences smoothly and managed to stay on top of the schedule.

The opening sequence of the movie, where we see the character of Stuntman Mike for the first time, was actually filmed inside a vacant underground parking lot in Austin. The production members took special shooting permission from the owners of the building, before capturing the car-drift scenes.
A high-speed race car was also arranged by the production members, which was used to depict the iconic “death machine” in the film. The crew had to contact a local car modification shop, to get the race car tricked out, according to the design given by Tarantino.
The exterior shots of the Texas Chilli Parlor shown in the movie were captured in front of a famous diner located at 4811 Woodrow Avenue, Austin. Plus, the scene where Stuntman Mike is shown prowling on young women, was also filmed here.
Other pivotal sequences of the movie were captured near Guero’s Taco Bar and 1226 Ranch Road. The Zedler Mill located at 1170 South Laurel Avenue, was used to depict the outdoor sequence of Jasper’s Farm in the movie.
The production members then moved to the next filming location and captured the remaining sequences.

After the majority of the sequences were filmed in and around the city of Austin, the production members moved to California. The ending car-chase sequence of the movie was filmed near Penance Ranch, in Buellton, California.
The last scene where Stuntman Mike rear-ends the stuntwoman with his death machine was filmed in Figueroa Mountain Rd, Los Olivos. Filming in California lasted until the end of November 2006. The production members then returned to Austin, Texas and captured the remaining parts inside Austin Studios.
