Where Was Eragon Filmed? Let’s Know This Fantasy Adventure Flick Closely!
The filming of Eragon was initially planned to take place in Croatia. However, after the production members couldn’t arrange the required permission for shooting, the director had to change the filming location.
After several months, the production members finally decided to shoot the film in parts of Hungary and Canada. The team visited the locations to ensure the setting was perfect and matched according to the description given by the director.
Then, finally, after submitting the list of potential filming locations to the director, Stefen agreed upon a number of sites and instructed the crew to begin shooting.
The principal photography began in the summer of 2005 and continued for two months or so. Important to mention that, the majority of the scenes were filmed in and around the beautiful country of Hungary. While some pivotal portions of the movie were later shot in Canada as well.
The filming crew worked hard, to ensure the filming schedule remained as planned. Thankfully, the crew was able to achieve the same, as most of the logistics were transported to the shooting locations in advance.

The opening sequence of the film, where we see the character of Eragon, treading inside the woods with his uncle, was actually filmed in Budapest. The production members traveled to the outskirts of the city, in order to capture the outdoor scenes of the wild forest.
The scene where Eragon finds the mythical egg, laying beside a ginormous tree, was also filmed in the same location. Other important scenes showcasing the small hut, in which the young boy lived along with his uncle, Garrow, and cousin, Roran were shot inside a make-believe hut. The production members constructed the small hut in no time and filmed the interior sequences.
Additional scenes of the film, depicting the castle of Agalaesia’s evil king, were actually captured inside a famous and well-equipped studio in Hungary. The production members took special shooting permission from the owners of Fot Studios, located at the heart of Budapest to film the sequences which required CGI and VFX.
The production members then traveled to other parts of this beautiful country, such as Tatbanya, Sarvar, and Celldomolk. The sequences depicting the entrance of the cave and the enchanted trail, where the character of Eragon finally discovers the dragon, were captured around these locations.
Filming in Hungary lasted for one and a half months, after which the production members moved to other shooting locations.
Other Filming Locations
Some pivotal outdoor sequences of the movie, which were used to depict the ending of the film, were captured around various beautiful places in Canada. After the team completed filming the majority of the sequences around Hungary, they arrived in the province of British Columbia.
Then finally, the production members moved to the UK, and captured the remaining interior sequences of the movie, inside Pinewood Studios, located in the village of Iver Heath.
