The films are inspired from a novel by R.L. Stine, which was published earlier to these horror flicks!

Fear Street Trilogy, upon its release, was highly praised by audiences and critics. It was nominated for multiple prestigious awards! And even went on to win ReFrame and Fangoria Chainsaw Awards in 2022!

Ok, so we will start off by discussing the first installment of the Fear Street Trilogy, which is the most famous and intriguing part of the three.

Fear Street Part One: 1994 begins by introducing us to Deena and Samantha Fraser, the central characters of the film. Who are shown to live in the fictional town of Shadyside, Ohio. Going through their tumultuous romantic relationship.

Later in the film, while the young couple go out on a date, to their horror, they discover a number of dead bodies in their neighborhood. Soon the findings lead them to a psychotic murderer on the loose. Who wreaks havoc in their town!

The second and third part of the series, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part Three: 1666, are also centered around the same town in Ohio. Although the horrific events that take place are set in different time lines, in each of the films. 

The second film showcases the brutal murders of a group of teenagers. Who are shown to arrive at Shadyside, Ohio to spend their summer camping. But eventually get hacked to death by another crazy killer!

The final part of Fear Street Trilogy, depicts the backstory of Deena and Samantha, the couple who appeared in the first film. Deena is shown to finally unearth the reason for the brutal killings. And gets to understand the psyche of the masked murderer, Sarah!

Where Was Fear Street Filmed? Let’s Know These Horror Films Closely!!

After purchasing the filming rights from R.L. Stine, the production unit began working on redeveloping the script for Fear Street Trilogy. Initially the concept of the production unit was to release the films in theaters, with a gap of one month, but was later changed. Which eventually impacted the filming dates, as all three films were shot together. Meanwhile you can also check out Raymond and Ray, Noel Next Door and Ghostbusters Afterlife which are equally entertaining!

Now, even though the Fear Street Trilogy is set in the fictional town of Shadyside in Ohio, none of the sequences of any of the installments were actually filmed there! The production unit, instead filmed the entire series in the state of Georgia! This decision was made, in order to avail the filming tax benefit that this state has to offer and also the wide range of well equipped studios that it has.

The principal photography began in March 2019 and was completed within 5 months! As mentioned, all three films were shot within this tight filming schedule. So without wasting any more time, let’s discuss where was Fear Street filmed, in depth. And explore more about the specific shooting sites!

Rutledge, Georgia

The first location that the production unit arrived was, in the small city of Rutledge. Located in Morgan County, this sparsely populated city was the perfect place for recreating the fictional town of Shadyside, shown in the film.

After reaching Rutledge, the filming crew soon began filming the outdoor sequences! Hard Labor Creek State Park, located at Fairplay Rd was used to film the neighborhood of Deena and Samantha’s home. Other shots of Shadyside were captured in and around this city.

Decatur, East Point | Georgia

The production unit then moved to the northeastern side of Georgia, in the city of Decatur. The second installment of the series, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 was majorly filmed here. Sequences which depicted the horrific killings that take place inside the mall, were filmed in North Dekalb Mall. 

Located at 2050 Lawrenceville Highway, Decatur, a certain part of this mall was closed to the public. The production unit had to arrange special permission from the North Dekalb Mall officials, to shoot the interior sequences.

Some other sequences which portrayed the fictional town in the film were shot in the suburban city of East Point as well. The city being located in the close proximity of Georgia’s state capital, Atlanta helped the crew to arrange the logistics required for filming, without any notable hassle.

Atlanta, Georgia

The filming crew, towards the end of their filming schedule, eventually moved to the city of Atlanta. The interior sequences of the house shown in the first and second part was filmed inside a renowned studio. Some exterior shots of the city were also captured, which featured in the final part of the Fear Street Trilogy.
