The story of Imprisoned is set in the western state of California. Although, the shooting of this film took place in and around Puerto Rico. Paul always wanted to shoot in Puerto Rico, as he was mesmerized by the beautiful landscape and setting of the place.
Thus, when the director got the chance to make this film, he thought of shooting all sequences of the movie in and around this beautiful Caribbean Island. Besides that, the cheap workforce of the place also played a major role in motivating the director to his film in Puerto Rico.
So, after Paul informed the crew about his decision, he subsequently asked them to look for perfect shooting locations around this gorgeous Caribbean Island. The filming crew then scouted various potential filming locations around Puerto Rico and submitted the list to the director.
Paul went over the list and concluded to shoot the majority of the sequences around the coastal city of San Juan. The principal photography began in the summer of 2017 and continued for 4 weeks. Thankfully, the shooting ended before the devastating Hurricane Maria made landfall.

Other pivotal sequences of the film were captured near Isla Verde Resort Strip Guaynabo. The production members also traveled to the interior parts of San Juan, to capture the outdoor sequences of the movie near El Morro.
Then finally, the filming crew moved to the town of Vega Alta. This beautiful and picturesque town is located on the northern coast of Puerto Rico. The sequences showcasing the family home of Dylan, after he gets released from prison, were captured inside a house located in one of the seven barrios of Vega Alta.

After the outdoor shots were captured in Puerto Rico, the filming crew returned to America. The remaining interior sequences were then filmed inside a well-equipped studio in California. In fact, the sequences in the Californian prison in the movie were also filmed inside the same studio, on one of the sound stages.
