As I’ve mentioned before, Black Island is a German film. Thus, while the makers were selecting the filming location for this movie, they decided to shoot on location. So, after selecting suitable cast members for his film, Alexandre asked the production members to look for suitable shooting locations in and around Germany.

However, the director later arranged a special meeting with other creative heads of the unit and eventually decided to shoot the majority of the sequences around the town of Schleswig. Although, some minor sequences of the movie were later captured around the city of Berlin as well.

The principal photography began in the starting months of 2021 and continued for two months or so. During the course of shooting the production members ran into a huge problem with the owners of a renowned studio. The standing issue was later resolved after the legal team of production took over. 

However, this incident resulted in disrupting the shooting schedule which eventually transpired in making the production to lose a lot of time and money. Nevertheless, the shooting finally ended by the second week of May, after which the filming crew began working on post-production.

Schleswig | Germany

The beautiful German town of Schleswig is located in the northeastern part of Schleswig-Holstein. So, the opening sequence of the movie, where we see the character of Jonas moving to his grandfather’s home, was actually filmed in Schleswig.

The production members arranged a small-sized home located in the southern part of Schleswig. But, before the outdoor sequences of Jonas’ new home could be captured, the production members had to turn around the property.

A considerable amount of changes were made to the overall appearance of the house before the outdoor shots were filmed. In fact, the filming crew also had to change the interior decor of the house to make it more minimalistic and vintage looking.

Other important sequences of the movie were shot on the island of Amrum. The sequences depicting the surroundings of the “Black Island” shown in the movie, were actually captured on this German island, which is an integral part of the Nordfriesland district.

Berlin | Germany

After the majority of the outdoor sequences of Black Island were captured the production members moved to Berlin. At first, the filming crew ran into a major problem while shooting inside a well-equipped studio in Berlin.

However, after a couple of weeks, the filming crew contacted the owners of another well-facilitated studio and captured the remaining interior sequences of the movie. Filming in Berlin lasted for a month or so, after which the entire shooting process was wrapped by the second week of May.

Plot Of Black Island | What’s It About

The basic premise of Black Island follows the character of Jonas, a young German teenage boy, who falls in love with his teacher. At the very beginning of the movie, the lead actor moves into his grandpa’s home, after the sudden demise of his parents.

As the story progresses further, Jonas joins a local school, to continue his education. The lead actor later strikes up a jovial relationship with one of his teachers. However, when Jonas starts completely trusting the character of Helena, she seizes the opportunity to make him do something absolutely diabolic.
