The opening sequence of the film, where we see the character of Cullen Crisp being arrested, was filmed inside an actual mall in California. The Main Place Mall located at 2800 North Main Street in Santa Ana was booked for two days to shoot the interior sequences. The production unit had to struggle with managing the crowd while shooting scenes with Arnold.

Other outdoor sequences were filmed in areas just outside of Los Angeles, and some near 523 South Broadway St. Although the main purpose of the production unit in California was to capture the interior sequence of the film. Thus the unit booked Universal Studios, located in Hollywood, to shoot the interior sequences of the school and Joyce’s home. After which, the production unit moved to the next location.

Astoria, Oregon | USA

John Jacob Astor Elementary School, located at 3550 Franklin Avenue, Astoria was used to portray the kindergarten shown in the film. As the production captured most of the scenes in Astoria during the summer break, it was easier for the unit to operate, as the school was closed for holidays. Other exterior sequences in Astoria were filmed near the Ecola State Park and Hamlet Quick Stop. The final sequence of the film was captured inside Bayview Cottages, located at 783 W Marine Drive.

At the very beginning of the film, we are acquainted with John Kimble, a diligent young police officer of the Los Angeles Police Department. He is shown to apprehend the criminal mastermind Cullen Crisp and other henchmen of his gang, after tracking them for years.

Later in the film, Kimble gets the opportunity to replace O’Hara, as an undercover detective, who was primarily trying to look for Crisp’s ex-wife and son in Oregon. Soon after, reaching the city of Astoria, Kimble joins a kindergarten school, as a replacement teacher for Mrs O’Hara.

However, the principal of the school welcomes Kimble hard-heartedly, as she thought he won’t be able to perform his duties as a teacher. But to Miss Schwolski’s amazement, the lead actor soon builds a rapport with the kids, and actually begins to enjoy teaching the tiny tots.

In the final quarter of the movie, Kimble is shown to grow feelings for Miss Joyce, one of his colleagues at the school. Although after visiting Joyce’s house and meeting with her son Dominic, he realizes that she is Rachel.

Eventually, when Cullen arrives in Astoria, to abduct his son, the lead actor neutralizes him with the help of O’Hara. The credits roll as detective O’Hara apprehends Eleanor, Cullen’s mother and brings her to justice.
