Well, I have given you an idea about the overall premise of this amazing movie, but what I haven’t mentioned are the accolades that Mrs. Doubtfire won. Over the years, this comedy film bagged 11 prestigious awards, including an Oscar, and collected several prestigious nominations.
The critics highly appreciated the overall storyline of this film, which was starkly different from any other contemporary comedy movie which was released during the early 90s. Plus, it’s also important to note that the stellar performance by Robin Williams in the lead role also helped this project to become super successful and famous at the same time.
However, none of this would be possible without the vision and effort of Chris Columbus, who was at the helm of affairs. Right at the beginning of this project, Columbus and his team worked tirelessly to find some brilliant filming locations within the United States of America.
Since the story of Mrs. Doubtfire is set in and around San Francisco, Columbus thought it would be best to shoot some pivotal scenes around the same city, However, not all scenes of this movie were filmed in San Francisco, except the major ones.
So, in order to select the other filming locations, Columbus and his team scouted through a number of ideal filming locations in California during the starting stages of the project. After several weeks the production members were finally able to identify the perfect location for shooting the final quarter of the movie.
Columbus checked those locations in person and then instructed his crew to commence filming. The principal photography of Mrs. Doubtfire began in the third week of March 1993 and was completed by the first week of July of the same year.

The production members used a small-sized house located near the Bay area of San Francisco and filmed this interior scene. In fact, the sequence where the lead actor appears to be visiting a doctor was also filmed around the same location, however, in a different property.
Other pivotal scenes in San Francisco were captured near Jamestown Avenue and North Beach Campus. The sequence where Daniel sneakily meets with his children was filmed inside Hancock School, located at 940 Filbert Street, San Francisco.
After these sequences were shot, the production members moved to the next shooting location.

In the second half of the movie, where we see the lead character disguised as an English governess, were in and around Redwood City.
In fact, the sequence of the courtroom in the movie was also filmed in the same city. To be more specific, the production members captured this scene inside the San Mateo County History Museum located at 2200 Broadway, Redwood City.
Finally, the ending sequence of Mrs. Doubtfire was captured in Berkeley, after which the shooting process ended.
