The Dark Forest that you see at the beginning of the movie when the King leads his soldiers against another unknown army, is in reality the Bourne Wood. A forest situated in Farnham, Surrey in England. The forest is known for its closely packed collection of thin and tall trees and happens to be one of the important locations of the movie.

A few other movies like Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, Thor: Dark World, and the 2020 action fantasy film, The Old Guard were also filmed in this particular forest.

St Bartholomew the Great Church, Barbican | London, England

In the scene where King Magnus and Queen Ravenna get married, the interior decoration of the set was inspired by the architecture of St Bartholomew the Great Church situated in Barbican, London.

Though in a number of scenes, CGIs were used, in order to bring the true essence of the story, the production team drew inspiration from actual real places. Another film that was shot in this magnificent Church was the 1994 Hugh Grant romantic comedy movie, Four Weddings And A Funeral.

Windsor Great Park, Windsor | Berkshire, England

Apart from the Bourne Wood forest, Snow White And The Huntsman was also filmed in another 4,800-acre woodland, known as the Windsor Great Park situated in the county of Berkshire. After shooting a number of sequences at the real location, additional CGIs were also used.

We have to keep in mind that adventure fantasy or sci/fi films in today’s world are impossible to make without extraordinary CGI. As real locations are important, VFX is vital too. Both go hand in hand.

You must be wondering that instead of shooting all the woodland scenes in Bourne Wood why did the production team film in another forest? That is because different forests have different types of trees, in Bourne Wood, the trees are thin and tall, whereas, in Windsor Great Park, the trees are crooked with spider web-like branches.
