Michael Showalter was at the helm of affairs with this project. But, before Michael could choose the filming location for Spoiler Alert, he invested most of his time in selecting the cast members. During the early stages of production in 2018, Jim Parsons agreed to play a titular role in this film.

3 years later, in the summer of 2021 Ben Aldridge, also decided to come on board and be a part of Showalter’s upcoming film. Other actors auditioned for their roles. This process continued till the second week of September of the same year.

But before the principal photography could commence, the director had to finalize the filming location for Spoiler Alert. Thus, Showalter arranged a special meeting with creative heads and eventually decided to shoot all outdoor sequences of the movie in and around New York.

Yet, some portions of the movie were later captured in various locations in Los Angeles. The principal photography finally commenced in the second week of October 2021 and continued for a couple of weeks.

The shooting schedule of Spoiler Alert wasn’t necessarily delayed, yet somehow the production companies had to push the release date to the second week of December 2022. The filming crew arranged most of the logistics in time. But the filming permissions were acquired by the director himself.

No major changes were made to the overall structure of the property, as the director found the look of the house to be perfect. The production members only made minor changes to the interior decor of the house, according to the instructions given by Showalter.

Other important sequences of the movie were filmed inside an actual bar, located in the lower Manhattan area of New York. The sequences where the lead actors meet for the first time, after being introduced to each other by a common friend, were also filmed here.

The production members had booked the entire show for two or three days. The interior sequences were then filmed after mounting the necessary pieces of equipment inside the liquor joint.

After filming the majority of the sequences in and around the state of New York, the filming crew moved to L.A.

The remaining interior sequences of the movie were then filmed inside a studio, located in the downtown area of the city. But before capturing the interior shots, the production members filmed some outdoor scenes, at a place located on the outskirts of Los Angeles.
