Apart from a few pivotal outdoor scenes which were filmed in L.A., the filming of The Big Lebowski also took place in several other locations in California. After the Coen brothers were done perfecting the storyline, they began looking for perfect filming locations in California.

The production members first scouted through a number of potential shooting locations in Los Angeles. After the director was completely sure about the main filming location, he asked the production members to look for other shooting sites.

Other important outdoor scenes in Los Angeles were captured near Santa Monica Boulevard and Fairfax. The sequence where the lead actor meets with his friends in a coffee shop was actually shot inside a diner located at 6101 Wilshire Boulevard.

After capturing some other additional outdoor scenes near Hollywood Hills and Westchester, the production members moved to the next filming location.

Other Filming Locations | California

The second phase of filming commenced in Beverly Hills, California. The sequences depicting Maude Lebowski’s gigantic mansion, were filmed inside a luxurious mansion located at 10231 Charing Cross Road, Beverly Hills.

However, the interior sequences of this mansion were captured inside Greystone Park & Mansion, located at 905 Loma Vista Drive, Beverly Hills. After these scenes were captured, the production members moved to a beautiful place located near Malibu and filmed the ending scene of the movie.

The story of The Big Lebowski revolves around the character of Jeff Lebowski, a middle-aged regular American guy who gets mistaken for a wealthy businessman. At the very beginning of the film, the lead actor appears to be in a chilled-out mood, enjoying a glass of whiskey in his apartment.
