So, the premise of this show was actually adapted from true and catastrophic events. The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster took place in Japan almost 12 years prior to the show. The magnitude of the event was such that it completely changed the lives of a lot of civilians. Scientists from all parts of the world later reached the location to understand and study the chain of events that led to the disaster.
During the initial stages of production, Jun Masumoto and a couple of other members of his team arranged a meeting with nuclear scientists. The makers of The Days took advice from the scientists to take a closer look at the chain of events that led to the disaster. A couple of months later, the director asked the production members to search for ideal filming locations in Fukushima, Japan. After the main shooting locations were selected, the director asked the crew to commence the shooting process.
Finally, by the second week of June 2021, the principal photography of The Days began. The entire shooting process continued for the next 4 months. Even though the production members only had to shoot the footage of 8 episodes, the majority of the time was spent on adding VFX. Plus, the director also used a famous studio in Japan to capture the interior scenes of the show. After the shooting process was completed, the production members started to promote the series.

Fukushima | Japan
The opening sequence of the show was filmed in Okuma-machi. This beautiful Japanese town is located in the central region of Fukushima. The production members traveled to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to capture the outdoor shots of the first episode. Additional outdoor scenes from the first half of the show were filmed in and around Fukushima. The production members used a commercial building to capture the interior scenes of the scientists’ homes.
No major changes were made to the property. However, the production members used special lighting equipment and other lenses to shoot the sequences inside the residence. Meanwhile, the interior scenes of the nuclear power plant were filmed inside a studio. By the third week of October 2021, the entire shooting process of The Days was completed. The story of The Days revolves around the catastrophic events which took place in Japan almost 12 years ago. At the very beginning of the show, a huge tidal wave hits the coastline of Japan, 25 Km away from the iconic city of Tokyo.
