The initial phase of production began in the summer of 2018. During this time, Parker and his team were busy convincing Eric Scherbarth to join this project as the main screenwriter. After the filming rights were granted, Parker also asked Stefan Jaworski to join the project as the second screenwriter.

While these tasks were being supervised by the director, a separate team was scouting for perfect filming locations in America. Parker specifically asked the filming crew to look for places with hills in the background.

After several weeks, the production members came up with a number of suitable locations in and around the state of Kentucky and reported them to the director. Parker reviewed the potential shooting locations and asked his crew to begin filming.

The principal photography commenced in the third week of September 2018 and continued for a month or so. As the production members only had to shoot in locations within the state of Kentucky, the filming process ended pretty quickly.

However, the makers of The Devil Below struggled to release the film, even after maintaining the shooting schedule and finishing the project on time. Apparently, this project was delayed for almost three years from the final day of filming.

The sequences depicting the research office of the adventurer’s team were shot inside a vacant building located in the downtown area of Lexington. The production members turned around a vacant commercial space in no time and later used it to film the interior scenes of the office,

Other important scenes of the movie were filmed in Mt. Vernon. This city is located in the southeastern part of Kentucky and is an important part of Rockcastle County. The scenes depicting the actual research of the team near the haunted coal fields were captured on the outskirts of this city,

After filming these scenes, the production members reportedly returned to the state of California. The remaining interior scenes were then captured inside a film studio in Los Angeles. The shooting process of The Devil Below ended by the final week of October 2018.
