Where Was The Island Filmed? Let’s Know This Action Thriller Flick Closely!

The shooting of The Island was done entirely in America. The majority of the film is directed by Michael Bay and filmed in and around different locations in the United States. The director particularly prefers shooting in America for a couple of reasons.

The high-flying action sequences which Michael uses in most of his movies can only be rendered using CGI and VFX. So in order to render these kinds of scenes, a skilled team and a well-equipped studio are required.

So, more often than not, we see Michael Bay shooting the indoor as well as the outdoor scenes for his project in America. Similarly, while Bay was making The Island, he thought it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea to shoot this film entirely in America as well.

As per reports, after the auditioning process was over, Michael and his team started the scouting process. A number of potential filming locations were scouted over the period of two months.

Eventually, the director decided to shoot the majority of the outdoor sequences in and around the state of Nevada. However, some sequences of The Island were also captured in California and Michigan.

The principal photography commenced in the final week of October 2004 and continued until the last week of February 2005. The entire shooting process lasted for 4 months or so. The production members shot the majority of the outdoor scenes in and around the states of Nevada and Michigan.

While the remaining outdoor scenes, along with some interior scenes of The Island, were filmed in California during the final stage of shooting. After the filming process was over, Michael spent most of his time working with his team inside the studio.

The special effects and other CGI were later added during the post-production process. After the film was ready, Michael Bay and his team began working on the promotion of this film.

Let us now take a closer look at where was The Island filmed.

The opening shot of the movie was filmed in the state of Nevada. The production members filmed in and around Rhyolite, Nevada, and used it to depict the scenes of the ghost town. The small town of Rhyolite is located near Bullfrog Hills and is an integral part of Nye County.

The second phase of shooting commenced in the state of Michigan, specifically in Detroit. The production members filmed some iconic scenes outside of Michigan Central Depot, located at 6 West Vernor Avenue.

The final stage of filming was done in California. The filming crew captured exterior shots of the Ambassador Hotel, located at 3400 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles. A couple of other scenes were shot in Wilmington, near Terminal Island, Los Angeles.

The scene where the lead actor finally makes it to the safe island in the movie was basically filmed around these locations. After these outdoor shots were captured, the production members prepared to shoot the interior scenes.

Almost all of the interior sequences of The Island were filmed inside Downey Studios, located at 12214 Lakewood Boulevard, California.
