Where Was The Originals Filmed? Let’s Know This Supernatural Series Closely!

Unlike The Vampire Diaries, the story of The Originals is set in and around the city of New Orleans. Although, you’d be surprised to know that the actual filming of this series also took place in Georgia, like The Vampire Diaries.

A major portion of The Originals was filmed in and around the state of Georgia. However, some sequences from the first season of the show were captured in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Julie Plec, the creator of The Originals picked up a lot of intel from the makers of The Vampire Diaries. She decided to shoot the latter seasons of The Originals in Georgia, mainly to gain filming tax credit. 

But, before any of this was decided, Julie was solely inclined towards filming in New Orleans, so she asked the production members to scout ideal locations in New Orleans. After a couple of weeks, the filming crew began looking for suitable locations in and around this iconic American city.

Soon a couple of potential filming locations were identified by the crew. Julie checked the locations in person and then made the final decision. The principal photography of The Originals began in the summer of 2013 and continued for 1 and a half months. 

The filming process of the second and third seasons of The Originals was done in the following years and nearly took the same time to complete. The final two seasons, however, were filmed within a short span of time since the production members only had to shoot 13 episodes instead of 22.

New Orleans | USA

The shooting process for the pilot season of The Originals commenced in New Orleans, Louisiana. Since the story for the first season is set in New Orleans, Julie thought it would be best to shoot in the same city.

The opening sequence of the show, where we see the character of Klauss coming out of a dungeon, was filmed on the outskirts of New Orleans. The production members used an abandoned warehouse located far from the city to shoot this scene.

Special lighting equipment was mounted on the walls of the warehouse to create a supernatural ambient setting. Before the lights were installed, the production members had to turn around the abandoned warehouse to make it look more creepy and sinister.

The scenes depicting the resting place of the nosferatu were filmed at a completely different location. The production members used a well-furnished apartment located in the southern region of New Orleans to capture the scenes of Klauss’ apartment shown in season 2.

Georgia | USA

Seasons 3, 4, and 5 of The Originals were shot entirely in and around the state of Georgia. Flec and her team members captured brilliant visuals in and around the city of Conyers. Scenes depicting Klauss’ battle with the other vampires were also captured near Olde Town, Conyers.

The shooting process of the last couple of seasons of The Originals took much less time to complete than seasons 1 & 2. The facilities which the production members used to capture the interior scenes in Georgia were much more advanced than the studios in New Orleans.

The story of The Originals revolves around the supernatural members of the Mikaelson family, who claim to be the first vampires. At the beginning of the show, Klauss Mikaelson, the main vampire, asks his brothers and sisters to establish dominance over the city of New Orleans.
