So, after the renowned cast members of the show were selected, Danny asked the production members to scout for ideal shooting locations around the mid-western states of America. After a couple of weeks, the crew came up with a list of potential filming locations around the state of South Carolina.
McBride then discussed with other heads of the unit, and finally decided to shoot the pilot season of his show, in and around the city of Charleston, South Carolina. The principal photography started in the summer of 2018 and continued for 6-7 weeks. During the course of the shooting, no major incidents were reported, which delayed the pushed the filming dates.
The production members worked round the clock and managed to stay on top of the filming dates. Important to mention that, the second season of The Righteous Gemstones was also filmed in the same city in South Carolina.

However, before filming the interior sequences of the house, the production members made minimal changes to the interior decor. Danny wanted to capture the minimalistic look of the evangelist family home.
Other important outdoor sequences of the show were captured near Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. The filming crew had to use special lighting equipment for capturing the sequences during the evening.
The production members then booked an entire auditorium located near the Charleston City Market. Sequences depicting the television show in which the evangelist family takes part were all filmed there.
But, before the sequences of the live television show were captured, Danny wanted to make sure the lighting and the overall setting was perfect. Thus asked the production members to take an extra day, to make sure everything looked on point.
