The story of We Have a Ghost is set in one of the busiest cities in America, Chicago. But the shooting of this film didn’t take place on location. The makers of We Have a Ghost decided to shoot the majority of sequences of this film elsewhere.
During the initial stages of pre-production, Landon was pretty invested in perfecting the script. So after the majority of the work with the screenplay was completed, the director asked the production members to scout for ideal filming locations in America.
The makers of We Have a Ghost reviewed the shooting budget of the movie, and then specifically asked the filming crew to find suitable filming locations around the state of Louisiana. So, after some time the production members submitted the list of potential shooting locations to the director and then waited for further instruction.
The director went over the final list of scouted shooting locations and eventually decided to film the outdoor sequences of his movie, Donaldsonville and New Orleans. Although, it’s important to mention that, the majority of the sequences were filmed in and around the city of New Orleans. Whereas a minor portion of the movie was also shot in Donaldsonville.
The principal photography commenced in the third week of July 2021 and continued till the month of September, of the same year. Fortunately, the filming schedule remained unchanged for the most part. The production members were able to complete filming within the estimated timeline.

The production members took special shooting permission from the owners of a small-sized home, which was located on the outskirts of Donaldsonville.
The sequences depicting the surroundings of Kevin’s previous home in California were also filmed around the same property. The production members then moved to New Orleans, to capture the remaining sequences of the movie.

The majority of the sequences of We Have a Ghost were filmed around the iconic city of New Orleans.
After the production members arrived in the city, they took filming permission from the administrative department of the public school. Sequences in the movie, depicting Kevin’s new school in Chicago, were then captured inside the premise of a public school, located near the downtown area of New Orleans.
Other major sequences showcasing the family home of the lead actor, where he meets the ghost of Ernest were filmed inside a medium-sized home located around the same area of New Orleans.
Additional sequences of the movie were filmed around other parts of the city, showcasing the secret office of the CIA. The production members then moved to a well-equipped studio in some other city in Louisiana and filmed the interior sequences of the movie.
